Are AP Classes really required?

I was just wondering, to get into a good university [I’m talking U of I Urbana or University of Florida tier] are APs really really neccessary? I’m only taking one AP class [Junior year] so, just curious! I was chatting with an alumnis of the U of I Urbana and she had not enrolled in AP courses and got accepted in…I’d say, 2002.
Input? :] x

of course not. no one can make you take them, they just tell colleges you’re a really hard worker… and some HSs don’t offer any.

I went to ivies during the summer and they all told me that…

they’re going to look at which school you go to. if they offer classes that are challenging, and you didn’t bother to take them, well that’s not good. so simply, do your best at what’s been provided.

As the two above posts have said, colleges care that you have seized opportunities. If you come from a school that offers one AP course and you took it, it shows that you have taken advantage of what was available to you. Colleges will not look at a kid from a prestigious private school and say his seven APs are better than your one.

Well, my school offers, I’d say…about 4-6 AP classes, so it’s not bad. I come from a public, though. This year I just had enormous family problems/struggles so I decided not to get too much on my plate.
Thank you for the responses. :] x
