Are cd's used often at UW

I was meaning to get a macbook air, but i remembered that textbooks occasionally come with cd’s. I know i could just get an external drive, but i’ll already be carrying an external hard drive and other stuff, so I don’t want to crowd things.

I haven’t used my DVD drive in years. All the software you need for classes is available online.

download a free software application such as daemon tools lite.
mac version
http://www.daemon-tools.cc/eng/downloads/dtMacLite

then get an application that rips software from CD’s such as alcohol 120%.
Most computers come with a basic nero package that should be able to make images from CD’s.

Or learn how to download “electronic backups”. Its when you “pirate” images of software you already own and is completely legal.

If people would learn how to use these applications, CD drives in laptops would have been phazed out years ago.

I’ve yet to use a CD for any class.

If you REALLY need to use a CD for some reason, you can always use one of the library computers. Don’t let the lack of a CD drive stop you from getting a macbook air if that’s the only factor holding you back.
