I confirmed acceptance and sent in an enrollment and housing deposit to La Salle University.
However, I do not want to attend the university anymore because I have received several more acceptance letters from different colleges. My parents forced me into placing the deposit in because they assumed I wouldn’t be accepted anywhere else. I am now very nervous that I won’t be able to withdraw my enrollment at this school.
According to La Salle University, they state:
Confirmation Deposit—$200
This non-refundable fee is required of ALL new students. A student’s acceptance shall not be considered official unless the
remittance accompanies this form. Upon registration, the student’s account will be credited for this deposit. If the student
fails to register and complete the enrollment process, the $200 shall be forfeited. * The confirmation deadline is May 1.
If accepted after May 1, your deadline for submission is two weeks from the date on your notification of acceptance.
Can someone please help me understand if this is binding or not? The fee has already been sent via credit card and I really do not want to attend. I do not care for the fee being refunded as long as I can back out from being admitted into the college.
Also, how do I go about with withdrawing my enrollment? Should I just call them ? Thanks.
I was not wait-listed at any other school. My application to La Salle was NOT early action or early decision.
I have not registered for classes or anything yet. I just sent in the deposit fee.
You should be able to get out of it, just send them an email saying you got a better offer or something, but understand you will not be getting your deposit back. (not 100% sure, double check my info)
You can cancel up to the day classes start. They can’t Make you go. You just may not get your deposit back. If you cancel early enough you should even get that.
Thanks for the confirmation, guys. If all goes well, I’ll be able to back out with a couple hundred dollars lost… Can’t really hold a grudge about that when I’m about to pay thousands a year for school anyways. lol
Most colleges require that you write a letter confirming your withdrawal. It isn’t a big deal, they just want to know it is really you contacting them. As their policy states, you will not get a refund of your deposit.
I’ll gladly write a letter if that’s what it takes. I just sent an email to the admissions office letting them know my situation and student ID. I’ll update when they reply back!
There may be an option on the website portal to change your status. Don’t be surprised if they ask for more verification. After all, a mean student could call or email the university as a “practical joke”.
I went through the student portal and found out that my anticipated start term wasn’t even selected yet. I’m assuming this means I’m not an officially registered student yet.
I’m just worried because I sent in a $200 confirmation fee and $200 housing deposit fee.
I also know that the school doesn’t even start making housing arrangements until the middle of April, so I’m hoping all is good… It’s still the end of March.
