This is something I’ve wondered for a long time. This is because I’m a senior with a great transcript tons of ec’s and a SAT Score of 1795 along with:
2 on AP English Language and Comp. exam
3 on AP World and US exam
4 on AP Environmental Sci. exam

I’m horrible at timed tests and college presenters will tell me that this is completely normal and that, after I told them about my other stuff – usual good grades bla bla-- and they told me that my case is common and I stand a good chance of getting into the college. This was a rep. from USC and another was a rep. from Pomona college…

So I was wondering, are these reps. telling the truth or do they just want people to apply to the college so some service can get 2.1 million dollars (if the application costs $60 and 35K people apply)?

The reason I ask is because I constantly hear of people with amazing SAT scores and the usual transcript ec’s…bla…bla and they just get rejected…

Hmm I have been wondering this, too, because we had a rep come today that said it absolutely did not matter if you did an interview or not, in terms of acceptance, and I would love to believe this since I hate interviews but I am really not sure…

It’s the job of the rep to get as many applications in the door as possible. If your stats don’t look a lot like those of students previously accepted, chances are you won’t be.

College Board’s web site has all the info. Keep in mind that almost half the class has a hook and can have lower stats. So the numbers above the middle of the 50th percentile are the most relevant.
