Are colleges allowed to pull your credit report?

Does anyone know? I had a few rough years & screwed up my very good credit. I am low income so do need aid. Thanks!

Thanks but it still isn’t clear to me, seems as if it cannot be done unless applying for a PLUS loan and you give specific permission?

I don’t believe colleges can pull your credit report. Most colleges are NOT in the loan business. But a Plus Loan is different.

Then again…I would NOT suggest you even get a PLUS Loan!

In order to pull a credit report, the requester has to have your permission. You give this permission when you apply for credit, sometimes when you apply for a job. The college wouldn’t have the right to pull the parents’ credit without permission but may include the authorization for the applicant if the student will be living in school housing.
