are colleges racist?

Not at all. My core guiding principle is that if you are going to criticize something, first become good in it and earn the right to do so. That’s what I have been teaching my kid as well. Do not criticize anything out of ignorance or incompetence.

You mean, aside from the evidence that I present, what other evidence do I have?

You accuse adcomms of some vengeance against those who are good at math, amongst other things. Thats just silly.

You seem to believe that white adcomms believe asians are textureless and have no leadership potential. Wheres the data? Are you simply generalizing from what may or may not be true (I don’t know) that admissions committees have many caucasian members? Thats a huge erroneous leap for a math person.

Not really. The most logical thing to do is to create an objective and regularly audited framework, backed up by laws.

This was discussed at length in Dan Golden’s book, The Price of Admission. The “textureless math grind” quote comes directly from that (from a senior AdCom who was later found out to have falsified her own academic credentials in order to get the job). The racial composition of the AdCom community at large is also discussed there.

Don’t know who posted the above quote originally, but there is a lot to be said for the encouragement of asians to participate on college admissions committees. This isn’t about passing legislation- its about working together and providing yor input. Do your think the job of an adcomm is beneath you or other asians? Why would you not encourage increased participation?

I merely quoted what AdComs said.

This is a free country. I encourage everyone to pursue whatever line of education and job that interests them. I would never, ever encourage anyone to choose any particular line. People can and should decide for themselves.

The Marilee Jones issue (I assume that is what you are referring to) is old news. If you think admissions committees are rejecting asians because oif some old unresolved issue with math-- that simply ridiculous, and baseless.

That’s a fact, or is that your opinion? :-)

Your argument in post 4529 reminds me of every resident of the subdivision who wants to complain about a rule or a broken fence or the pool or a noisy neighbor or what have you, but is unwilling to get involved and do something about it. If asians feel they are being mistreated in the admissions process, then they should get more involved in the admissions process. Ditto for any other population

where is the data to support your allegation? There is none. So no need to present it as if it was “fact”. It is folly.

What adcomms are you quoting? I would like to see that? Can you please post the quote and source here?

So why aren’t you advocating for all adcoms to get a 750+ in critical reading as well as the writing portion of the SAT as well? Or do you believe they can all already do that and it is just math that they haven’t mastered?

If they were unfairly criticizing non-STEM candidates, I would.

That’s your opinion, of course. I am not going to debate purely subjective opinions.

Does your silence on providing evidence to support your accusations mean you cannot support your allegation, IP? You are presenting opinion but suggesting it is fact. That is folly.

I gave you the source, Dan Golden’s book. Given your immediate dismissal of the one direct quote that I presented as “old news”, and that you disagree with my position that math doesn’t lack texture, or is not a grind, I am not going to provide any more, as that is pointless. Your mind is made up on this one.

What do you think of the Marilee Jones comment? Opinion or fact?
