Are distribution requirements a factor in a college choice?

Perhaps there are people here who would balk at colleges because they have either too few or too many distribution requirements.

We know that, at one end of the scale, you have schools like Columbia and U Chicago, who not only are laden with distribution requirements, it even amounts to a core curriculum. You can expect, in the slightly less extreme cases, ~45 semester hours out of 120. At the other end, you have Brown, which doesn’t have any.

Now, I expect it to be less of a factor if one could either cash in AP/IB credit or allow distribution requirements to be fulfilled with courses from a major. But what kind of college would fit you more (with respect to distribution requirements)?
