Are Elective Credits Worth Anything?

So, I’m thinking of taking the Human Geography AP test, and I don’t plan on majoring in Geology, so if I get a 4 or 5 on the test, apparently, the only thing that I could use the credits gained towards would be elective credits (the class you get credit can’t be used for a gen-ed requirement). Would it be worthless to take it?

Elective credits can act as room to drop a class. As in, if you drop something you still have enough credits to fall back on to graduate on time. You also get to register for classes earlier because those with more credits get to sign up first.

you could use it for an elective requirement and then have less classes that semester… or you could take an easy elective (have more classes though) get a good grade to help your GPA…

Geology can count as one of your general education requirement science classes, which would free up space for an elective of your choosing (rather than being forced to take a science class). I would highly recommend taking the test.

^It isn’t. I called advising at Pitt and they told me that AP Human Geo cannot be used to fulfill gen ed requirements. As well, if you look at the courses that can be used to fulfill gen ed requirements, the GEOL class that you get credit for by getting a 4 or 5 on the AP test is not on there.
