You know what i mean.

Like is the Columbia Fu Foundation School of Applied Science and Engineering any less prestigious than Columbia College?

You know what i mean.

no .

Harvard engineering

Maybe Tufts engineering

Engineering is virtually never less prestigious than the general university.

Even if they are less prestigious, the engineering degree in itself is rare and holds much prestige.

Why would you goto Harvard Engineering school when you have the ability to be at Cornell or MIT or maybe even Standford?

…because of the liberal arts component

So are you saying Harvard engineering and tufts engineering are less prestigious that harvard college and tufts university?

Greenvision…I’m confused…what do you mean?

Hes asking if the engineering schools are less prestigious or get less respect than other colleges within the university. This generally seems to happen in private universities such as Harvard, brown,Dartmouth, yale, columbia, duke, (except for BME) and notre dame to an extent. Its very subjective however, I admit.

generally speaking, engineering colleges are harder to get into compared to college of Arts&Science… (Duke for instance - this is true when you compare the accepted students’ avg SAT scores. Duke had them available back in 2003 when I was applying for colleges… I know this was true for several others…)

I don’t believe Colombia or Duke engineering is less prestigious than the general university. Of course, I’m an engineer.

Why does it matter, do you want to be an engineer or not?

Whats BME?

biomedical engineering

My thoughts exactly. How will this make any difference at all?

BME = biomedical engineering

it does make a difference when you think about why Engineering schools are in general less prestigious than the school of business at many of these top school.

It doesn’t make a difference to you personally, but why is the engineering profession looked down upon in America when SAT average for the engineering schools at all Universities are higher than the other majors?

Engineering profession looked down upon? Compared to what?

There are plenty of universities where the engineering school is more prestigious than the other colleges.

Which schools have a more prestigious undergrad business school than engineering? I can only think of Wharton. The others are pretty similar, except for NYU, but that’s because NYU doesn’t have an engineering school.

I wouldn’t say the engineering profession is looked down upon… not by a long shot, though I will say there are some more prestigious professions.

^^ are you sure NYU doesnt have an engineering school? I’m at Poly and we are in the final stage of Merging with NYU.
