I am following the IGETC to transfer to UCSD. I am pretty much ready to transfer now, but I won’t be transferring until fall of 2008.

Should I continue taking classes on the IGETC or is it bad to have too many classes when transferring?

I think that they dont accept more than 70 or 80 units, but you can take as many as you want, and i believe they get factored into your gpa but i dont think that they count more than 70 ( or 80)

So the answer is yes, its not a bad thing, do it if you want.

everything UC-transferable you take counts for gpa

Keep taking things you are interested in, it doesn’t matter if you’ve already completed your IGETC

First of all, you’re doing the right thing by coming on this board to seek advice. Sometimes, you might not get the best advice. But continue to ask questions and you’ll find that you can get almost everything answered here. I started using this board last summer to prepare for admissions and got into my target UC, UCLA.

While you’re at CCC, it doesn’t matter how many units you take there. Just remember that only 70 or so units will count towards your degree. So keep taking anything that you enjoy. Stay at CCC if you’re happy until you’re ready to transfer.

There’s no limit to the amount of units that you can take at CCC. However, in financial terms, it would be best to try to complete everything in two years if the government is paying for your education because cal grants are usually cutoff in the 5th year and that single grant can be detrimental on your final year.
