Are GPA & Scores Determining Factors for Top Schools?

I just applied to Wharton (M&T), Chicago, MIT for ED and EA.

My scores are relatively low but do you think I have a chance?

Considering I have some powerful EAs (Founder of Social Network/nonprofit corp/profiting online branding corporation) and good essays.

SAT: 2210 (Super Score from 2 tests)
SATII: 800 math 2, 800 Chinese (I’m Chinese so it doesn’t count), 740 Physics
GPA: 3.86/4.00

What are your opinions? I’m just afraid they will not even look at my app after seeing my test score.

Thanks for your input!

There is nothing in your scores to fear. You are perfectly lined up to those schools. And for a kind info, your scores are not LOW. You are a part of the competent student pool. Don’t worry about your scores.

I don’t think you can apply EA to Chicago and MIT if you applied ED to Wharton.

I think it’s a violation of the Penn rules for applying ED.

Here’s the rule from the Penn website:

“Early Decision applications supersede any non-binding Early Action applications. A student may apply Early Decision to only one institution. Accordingly, if a student applies Early Decision to the University of Pennsylvania and to another school, the Early Decision application to Penn will be withdrawn.”

Further, if it is a violation of the Penn ED rules, then that makes it a violation of the MIT and Chicago EA rules

OP is allowed to apply to UPenn ED and apply to Chicago and MIT EA because those 2 schools are not restrictive. If OP should get into UPenn then he/she will need to decline Chicago and MIT.

You are in the ball park. Good luck.

If you’ve already applied early to those schools, there’s no point in asking this question now. When you get your results, report them on the results threads here on CC–your experence will provide a data point to others.
