are high SAT scores essential for transfer admissions?

i’m a freshman attending Georgia State University (they have spring semesters) and my SAT score is

440 CR
590 Math
430 W

high school GPA 2.7

i want to transfer to other good universities such as NYU, and U of Chicago since I’m a finance major and get out of Georgia < hate it’s educating system

are high SAT scores essential for transfer admissions even though NYU transfer admission FAQS told me not to retake SAT if i’m currently attending a college / university?

should i retake it or not? if high sat scores are essential to transfer admissions i should spend my time studying SAT during the whole summer

when r u planning to transfer ? spring 08 or fall 08?

fall 08 after i’m done with my spring 2008 and summer school

oooh i’ve just find out that u of chicago doesn’t have undergrad finance classes…so only nyu for me…

Sorry to ask this, but why did you do so bad on the test?

i always suck at CR and never studied math…guess i have to retake if my test scores are so bad…

Do not think that you suck at that test! Just try to tackle it. My first score was 440CR (just like you), 750M (as math is my only strong subject), and 560W.
I am international student, I prepared for a month and retook it in December and could improve by a 210 points. My scores specifically were 800M, 570CR, 590W.

Are you native speaker? If so, it would not be so much hard for you to improve.

Good luck!

matthew, you gave me more reason not to attend Georgia State University. GA ST is my back-up college, and I’m hoping I get accepted to UGA. I really should’ve went out-of-state to a “0-6” year college for pharmacy where I wouldn’t have to take PCAT’s later on or anything, but I’ve made up my choice to go to an in-state college first year. :'(
