I know NW is known for its journalism, communications, and engineering programs but how are the humanities? Is there anything special about them?

The English department is in the top-20 (graduate ranking) according to USN. USN doesn’t have philosophy ranking.

[Alice Kaplan Institute for the Humanities, WCAS, Northwestern University](http://www.humanities.northwestern.edu/)
[Kaplan Humanities Scholars Program](http://kaplanscholars.northwestern.edu/)
[Brady Scholars Program](http://www.bradyprogram.northwestern.edu/)

As for Philosophy, it’s respectable, though not really on the same level as the other humanities departments. I’m a Philosophy major and I’ve enjoyed my classes and found the professors to be fairly good, but I’m not learning from many leading minds.

If you want more details/ insights on those programs, I can post more.
