Are liberal arts colleges better than state universities?

on [Best Colleges | Find the Best College for You | US News Education](http://colleges.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-colleges) i started to look at the liberal arts colleges and they started to fascinate me, because of their very small student body, so i was wondering if anybody knew more about these types of colleges and would they recommend going to a LAC instead of a state university?

It really depends on what academic fields you’re interested in and what kind of campus culture you want.

well i will major in philosophy, and i want an intelligent , but fun campus culture :D, any ideas?

liberal arts colleges and state univs are complete opposites. LACs have small classes and small student bodies, while state univs have large classes and large student bodies. So it really depends on what you prefer.

Looking at the rankings - most liberal arts colleges would be better than state univs ( except the UCs, UVA and a few others)

Do an advanced search on this forum for LACs vs. Universities and you will find a dozen threads with all the arguments pro and con that have been made.

The bottom line is that each has its strengths and weaknesses - and the key is what you want from your education and what environment brings out the best in you.

A third choice is the smaller, private university, places such as (at the higher end) the University of Rochester or Case Western Reserve or (lower on the food chain) the University of Evansville or Bradley University. They typically have a broader set of offerings than most LACs, yet more of a small college feel than state mega-universities.

As far as campus culture, LACs are a lot less ethnically diverse than large universities. That’s all I know.

It is feasible for an LAC to fit better than a state university (or vice versa). That is subjective.
