I read an article that states that for the most part, multiple choice examinations are extremely rare in graduate school, if they are used at all. This makes me happy.

But is it true?

Yes, it’s true. They’re rarely used because that’s not the kind of knowledge graduate school is generally trying to confer.

I have never taken a multiple choice exam in the entire time I’ve been in grad school (nearly 5 years now). They don’t measure any kind of useful knowledge at our level.

Same. Since in graduate school, never had multiple choice.

The only times I’ve seen multiple-choice questions is when it’s really beneficial to the problem (Is this diffraction pattern from Fe, Co, Mo, or Sn?).
