I am South Asian(Indian). I live in Houston, Texas. I wasn’t getting a lot of responses in the “What are my chances Forum”?

G.P.A.- 3.8/4.0 (Unweighted) 93.8/100 (weighted)
Class Rank- Anywhere from TOP 15 PERCENT To TOP 19 PERCENT (I don’t know for sure)------I KNOW THIS IS BAD…HOW MUCH OF A FACTOR Do YOU GUYS THINK IT IS? Look at my grades below and tell me if they are good enough…My counselor did say in her rec, that at surrounding schools I would have been top 10 percent…Do you guys think schools will see my rank, and my gpa, with my sat score and assume my school is compeitive, or will it hurt me a lot?

You should stop worrying. You’re competitive and wouldn’t be denied due to your SATs/GPA. Your ECs are a little lacking but they are not terrible. It will depend on your essays, interview etc.

1470 is a strong score. You’re in the 99th percentile, that is not weak. I think CC is giving you are skewed sense of reality. I know 5 people in my area that got in with lower scores and they were not URMs, recruited athlete, etc.
Your class rank seems a little odd considering your relatively high UW GPA. Is that your rank according to your weighted GPA or UW? Is your school high on grade inflation? I go to an average suburban public school and a 3.6 is in top 10% of my class. 3.8 would be top 5% for my school (unweighted).

If your essays were really “average”, I would worry about that. For schools like Duke, your essays can be the tie-breaker between an acceptance and a rejection. Good luck though, I hope you get in. There’s no point agonizing about your prospects on getting in, only 10 weeks to go!

wow there seems to be grade inflation at your school. A 3.8 and only in top 15 %, weird. Your Sats are competitive do not worry about that. Your ECs are weak though. How is working at a neurologist office community service? It seems its an internship, not cs. I think your essays will break the deal here.
