Are my EC's too wide in content with no depth??? Finalized stats...

<p>I wanna apply to these schools…but now i get a feeling that i did too much in quantity, not quality. However, the philosophy behind my action was that i wanted to a whole lot of different things in high school so that i know what the heck i want to do later in college and in life.</p>

<p>gpa: 4.6w 3.9uw (B’s are all in Freshmen year… however, I came here 6 years ago…also you can plainly see my grade improve semester by semester. For example, during Freshmen I have A’s and B’s. Sophomore I have bunch of A-'s. Junior I have all A’s. Now Senior I know I am going to get A+ in at least 2 subjects.)</p>

<p>sat I: 1520 out of 1600 (old one…Just took the october one. I am CONFIDENT that i will score above 2300 out of 2400)
Sat II: math 2c 800, physics 790, U.S. History 750, Korean 750 (will take Bio december. Should do well, cuz i already had a year of bio)

<p>I am one of the 80-100 high school students worldwide taking the IB math FL, the hardest IB test there is and you can only take it if you have taken AP Calc BC at your freshmen year. Also, Took Differential Equations during Sophomore year as well as group communications in a community college.</p>

  • Tanzanian Tennis Project (10-12) (My tennis coach and I started this project where we would send in thousand dollars worth of tennis equipments to ppl in Tanzania. I was featured in july edition of “Inside Tennis” magazine, and hopefully also in USTA’s “TENNIS” magazine very soon.)
  • Community Service (9-12)(teach underprivleged students math and immigrants english)
  • Local Church Youth Group Volunteer (9-12)

  • Manager of the Arcade Creek ROP Natural Resources Project (11-12) (Creek restoration project involving 200+ students. I’m their boss.)
  • Filmmaking (9-12) (My films and documentaries have been shown at the Cal-IT2 Theatre at San Diego, IB Teacher Conferences in Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Washington D.C. and I have been to countless film festivals across the country. I will be sending a film supplement to top schools…also why i am applying for USC School of Cinema if the questbridge thing doesn’t work out)
  • Can’t forget Snowboarding! (9-12) (For fun but can go down almost anything.)</p>

<p>Wow…so yea, your stats are perhaps not as high as mine…but you have MUCH better EC’s.</p>

<p>I’m gonna treat your Questbridge ones just like the other ones, since I don’t know your income and such.</p>

<p>You have a pretty good shot at all of them…of the 5 super-ultra-elite ones on there (Princeton, Harvard, Stanford, CalTech, MIT), I’d be surprised to see you rejected from them all. I realize you are Asian, but it shouldn’t hurt you that much…heh.</p>

<p>your stats are great, and you’re in at UCLA, Berkeley, USC or Cornell. The otherschools are pretty much reaches for anyone, though. Apply anyway, maybe Princeton would take you early (assuming thats your first choice b/c you posted it first)</p>

<p>still doesn’t mean i have any better chance of getting into ivies…but hey i have a solid chance and that’s what really matters…(at least that’s what I would like to think)</p>

<p>Being asian doesn’t hurt unless you have a super unique skill. Like I know English, Mandarin, Japanese, and French, all fluent.</p>

<p>because my high school always has some freshmen (1 or 2) finishing calc on or before their freshmen year, our high school students has the option of testing what is called IB Mathematics Further Level. You can take it after you study Higher level for two years, and the entire test is based on geometry proof (not the easy kinds…trust me…)</p>

<p>It is supposedly the hardest IB test, even harder than Physics HL. That why only 75 ppl took it last year world wide.</p>

<p>Not necessarily…</p>

<p>You still have to send the CSS profile, FAFSA, etc to the collges you want to apply through QuestBridge so they’ll really see how you’ve been living. Just because you’re a finalist doesn’t prove that you faced hardships.</p>

<p>All that, and I still can turn in their own application as a supplement. So i basically can present 2 personal statements. So i made one a biographical and one about my passions. If done right, this will help me.</p>

<p>From what i saw, i dont think it would be necessary to take calc BC your freshman year just to take the class. If you took it your sophmore you could spend your junior year doing the 4 electives of the HL syllabus and your senior year doing the geometry (which,IMHO sounds fun as SHIZZZ). Even if you took calc BC your junior year it seems like you could pull it off, cuz HL math is really just different applications of math analysis(which you have to take before calc anyways)+calc</p>

<p>hmm that sounds reasonable…it could be a school thing… our school lets only kids who took calc freshmen year take the test…it might be only our school that does that.</p>

<p>Im in HL this year(senior year) and ive been in IB all of high school(pre-IB then real IB junior/senior) and ive never heard of that math class, though i wish i would have so i could have taken it.</p>

<p>Its probably just becuase of our school, we only have a few kids that want to go into engineering/math/science every year, and they usually take HL with some of the kids that want to go humanities and are just good at math. I dont think we could actually have a working math FL class for the same reason we cant pull a Physics HL, another class i wish i could have taken</p>

<p>I think this year theres a good 5 kids that plan on going into engineering in the top 10% of IB(around 50 kids) and thats the biggest number in a long time. last year there was only 1 (grant it, she is now at MIT)</p>
