Are my High School Marks according to 10 point Gpa scale good enough?

Hi!

Here are my GPA on a 10 point scale.

So I got 8.5 in 9th grade, and my rank was 2nd in my class of around 40 students.

It was 10 in 10th grade and my rank was 4th with the total graduating class being of around 120 children

It was 8.3 in 11th grade and my rank was 5th in my class of around 30 children

It was 9.5 in 12th grade.

Are my grades Cornell worthy? It’s my dream school.

I am an International Student.

My EC’s include Several Debating and MUN awards, National Champion Roller Hockey, Table Tennis State Ranking, Certificate of Recognition and Appreciation from the Women and Child Development Ministry for my volunteer work with a UN linked Non Profit. I was also in my school’s student council. I also won a National Photoshop design competition.

I would give the August 28 SAT. My schooling would be officially over as of August 1 2021.

I am aiming to apply early at Cornell.

I am aiming from my mock attempts a sat score of over 1480.

Is my profile good enough? I would apply in the school’s of engineering and school of science and arts. For CS and Eco respectively. I would opt for financial aid.

Is it good enough? Yes.

Are you severely disadvantaged being an international applicant? Yes. Are you even more disadvantaged by needing aid? Yes.

:frowning: sad, should I abandon my prep and rather focus on national universities?

You can certainly apply, but you should also have backups prepared.

It’s a very good profile but you need to expand your search and have affordable backups in your country as well as anywhere else.

Note that in the US a “class” includes all students in the same year, college bound or not if the school is comprehensive, or college bound only at prep schools (prep school= prepares to college).

Just curious…did you change schools a lot? Why does the size of your class go from 40 to 120 to 30?

Yup I changed my school after 10th grade. In my country School Ranks are provided in 10th and 12th. Only class section ranks are provided in 9th and 11th.

Best advice I can give you…look at the characteristics of Cornell and then try to find other colleges with similar characteristics. Why is Cornell your “dream school”.

I would also suggest you drop the “dream school” idea, and craft a varied list of places to apply to.

As an international student, most schools are need aware for admissions (including Cornell) which means your financial need will be considered when your application for admission is reviewed.

Some colleges meet full need for international students. Some have limited financial aid for international students. Some don’t provide any aid for international students. You need to tease this out as well.

And please have at least one affordable sure thing in your own country.
