I got a 700 in chemistry and a 720 on literature. I used to think my scores were at least decent but I guess this board has me shaken. I do realize that most users on this board are applying to HYPS, but I’m rather concerned nonetheless. I’m applying to basically all liberal art schools, from the more prestigious ones like Amherst to schools like Kenyon. I guess my hook is that I’m a urm from a low income background but I don’t want to rest too heavily on that. Would a 2200 on the sat make up for my subject test scores? I don’t think my scores are terrible, but are they at least passable? Do you think they would stand out to an admissions officer in a negative way?

They don’t look negative at all.

I don’t want to be a debbie downer but it seems that the consensus here is that anything below the 750+ range is considerably bad. Also, don’t worry only about HYPS (remember there are other Ivy league schools-- like Brown <3). Also, seeing as you are applying to top liberal arts schools, I would say (in my unprofessional and rather unqualified opinion) that your scores are ok but not nearly close to being the best of who will apply. If you feel like you can do better then use score choice and make your self a better applicant by pulling off better scores next time, but I think you did ok.
