Are Michigan scholarships counted toward our financial aid awards? I was awarded a scholarship but haven’t gotten financial aid back yet (we have been slow in filing taxes). I have figured out that if scholarships are not counted towards my EFC, and from some bizzare circumstance I was awarded aid for my full need, UMich could become an affordable option for me. However, if scholarships count towards my financial aid award, I can’t afford UMich regardless of if they meet my EFC related need. I’d like to know if I should even be hoping for aid or if I should just give up Michigan entirely…
Yes, they stack for the most part based on my experience; got my aid package back in march when I was admitted, had to pay 16. Was awarded a 20k scholarship in April, which covered the rest. Only if your scholarship+aid exceeds CoA would they start to reduce your aid.
I’m curious whether anyone knows the degree of relative neediness among work study, Perkins loans, and Direct Subsidized loans. In other words, if one of these was to be lost because of decreased need, which would go first?
