Are scholarships independent of each other OR if we get one, do we lose the other scholarship!!!

We are NC residents and has a question on this Private College in FL. Can some one give some idea how much we will pay from our pocket, since it is NOT clear whether these scholarships are independent of each other OR if we get one, we lose the other scholarship!!!. What is typical process in this case. Thank you. Here are our true #s.

(1) 2 months ago: THIS COLLEGE’s NPC gave us the below #s
(1.a)
Tuition & Fees : 44350
Room & Board : 12684
Books & Supplies : 930
Transportation : 1080
Personal Expenses : 2320
=======
ESTIMATED COA : 61364

(1.b)
Est. Need-based Grant : 9750
Est. Scholarship :19000
=======
ESTIMATED Grant/Gift Aid : 28750

(1.c)
Student Loan : 3500
Student Work : 3000
======
ESTIMATED SELF HELP : 6500

(1.d)
ESTIMATED OUT OF POCKET COST(1.a-1.b-1.c) : $26,114

(2) Last month: This school awarded us $26K per year MERIT scholarship. It is not clear whether it is additional on top of (1.d)!!

(3) This month: My child is National Merit Finalist. We are yet to choose the college. National Merit finalists who are accepted and name THIS COLLEGE as their first-choice school will minimally qualify for the $16K per year($64K for 4 yrs) Scholarship and for a $750 to $2,000 National Merit Award.

I think it would replace the ‘scholarship’ in 1b that you listed/estimated at $19000. The school granted scholarships don’t usually stack, so you can’t get a ‘President’s scholarship’ and then a ‘Dean’s Scholarship’.

Sometimes they do! Ask the school!

I see it the way the first answer is. You got a larger merit than the 19k estimated, you got 26., No one knows if they will stack extra NMF merit on top of that. I think you can talk to them.

Usually you may stack the scholarships up to the CoA. However, there are scholarships that explicitly excluded from each other. Also, there are scholarships with specific purpose (e.g. for tuition only) that the amount may be adjusted if you have other scholarships.

You have to ask each college. Policies differ widely.

Thank you all. OK. I will ask the college. Thanks again.
