As a student from New Jersey, all I’ve heard up here is that all students are more upper class southerners and I won’t fit in down there? Is that actually true?
Visit the school-- ANY school-- before you decide where to go. It’s all about where YOU fit in, not the opinions of other people.
I’m guessing that even the most uptight and mean person on the planet doesn’t see him/herself that way. So no one else can really answer this one for you.
But I’ll go out on a limb and say that the odds of any one college containing just “uptight and mean” people is incredibly small.
All students at Wake Forest are uptight, mean, upper class southerners?! That is sheer poppycock, and I would seriously question the common sense and intellectual honesty of anybody making such a statement. Keeping an open mind free of prejudgment, visit the school and spend a few days there, and decide for yourself whether or not the school is for you.
WF students have a stereotype of being Southern prep, but of course not everyone fits in that mold. You can definitely fit in; they’re a pretty accepting bunch. As everyone else said, try visiting the school before you decide whether or not to attend, and if you know anyone at the school/can find any students in charge of recruitment then reach out to them with your concerns–they’ll be able to address them better than we can.
