Are taxpayers who choose to itemize deductions still considered to be required to file 1040

In October 2015*, @mom2collegekids stated, “Since 1999-2000, taxpayers who itemize deductions on Schedule A of Form 1040 are now considered to be required to file a 1040 and hence ineligible for the Simplified Needs Test.”

Is this still the case?

Thank you very much!

@Vinny

Why are you asking?

With the big changes to the tax law at the end of 2017, effective for this tax year (2018), the IRS forms and regulations that will be used for 2018 filing are a work in progress, so I think you’ll just need to wait to get an answer to your question.
