Are the college forums just not active anymore?

There is just a wealth of information here, and I’m very appreciative, BUT…the technology of this site is 2010 or earlier. It’s so difficult to follow conversations because of how they land in a thread. The search button is unreliable. It’s not surprising that first kids - and then adults - have left. That said, Reddit is interesting and easy to navigate and understand, but the quality of discussions sometimes isn’t great.

I’m also seeing too many posts that are too long and verbose…no one has patience for that these days, especially kids. Way too much pontificating.

So many colleges have youtube, insta, postings by students and admissions offices…

The NYU thread is far less active than when D19 was applying. I know the NYU Reddit was already very active back then (D19 was only there while I was here and lurked there) so not sure that a move to Reddit is the only explanation?

To be honest I think this is somewhat of a reflection of the desirability of the school. Look at which forums are active - Clemson, UGA, Auburn, Pitt, Texas A&M, etc.

I guess that depends how you assess desirability. NYU received almost 120000 applications last year. Seems to be about double the amount that applied to Clemson. Based on sheer numbers that doesn’t seem to be an explanation for the difference in forum traffic, especially as the numbers were noticeably lower in D19’s application year (around 80k iirc)

Hmmm, maybe. I think this article puts things in perspective https://www.wsj.com/us-news/education/sorry-harvard-everyone-wants-to-go-to-college-in-the-south-now-235d7934

Yeah, I’ll reserve judgement on that article till we see what actual application numbers for this cycle are. I don’t think Harvard is too worried. Anyway my point was that I agree that the traffic is probably just moving from this site elsewhere but not sure that Reddit is the sole answer.

I hear you. It is interesting to note though that Brown’s ED admission rate jumped to the highest in six years. Wonder what trends they saw that caused them to do that. I think it’s actually harder to get into UGA Honors or GA Tech EA than it is to get into a second tier Ivy ED these days.

@Eri412 there are threads being created for applicants this year where questions can be answered. Maybe this would be a good place to check. I don’t know how active these are, but here is a newly created example:

That thread was created by a community manager who has responded to this thread before it was created. Perhaps it was in response to this post.

They returned to test-required this year, had 19% fewer ED applicants, and accepted the same number they do every year. Doesn’t seem like a mystery.

That is the one created most recently…but others had already been created.
