My D has several pretty blankets and throws (and I’m crocheting her an afghan this summer), so she has suggested that, for her dorm bedding, we just get some twin XL sheets which would coordinate with the blankets/throws/afghans, instead of going with a comforter or “bed in a bag” set. She saw twin XL sheets at Five Below the last time we shopped there, and is interested in them - but are they decent sheets? (We don’t have fancy tastes at home - usually house-brand cotton-blend percale sheets from Walmart or Shopko - so anything of comparable quality in Twin XL would be fine.) If Five Below’s twin XL sheets are junk not worth buying, what would some reasonably-priced yet decent-quality alternatives be?

I’ve never heard of Five Below. My guess is the sheets will be fine…can you feel them? Are they soft enough, you know…not rough?

You can get XL twin sheets almost anywhere they sell linens…Target, Wlamart, Bed Bath and Beyond. You can order sheets for LLBean too.

If Five Below has JUST the bottom sheets, I would get them. Some places only carry sheet sets.

I haven’t bought the sheets from Five below but most of their stuff is decent, especially for the price. They won’t be any worse then ones from Walmart or Kmart. I have quite a few shirts and pajama pants from there.

Thumper, Five Below is a store where everything costs 5 or less. Kind of like a quirky dollar store. They have a sporting goods section, a candy section, a board games section, a movies and video games section, an ipod/cell phone section (only place I know where you can walk in and get iphone covers for 5 bucks), a books section, a seasonal section, a clothing section, a makeup section, and then a house type section.

A lot of the stuff is more focused for young adults and kids. I did buy my grandmother a snuggie there for Christmas this past year. It’s one of my favorite places to go shopping for gifts because you can always find something for everyone at a really good price.

Wait until July when TJ Maxx/Marshall’s/Target have XL sheets and all things campus related on display and you can buy XLsheets in a variety of colors and thread counts, rugs, towels, XL mattress pads/toppers.

^^^ Agreed. TJ/Marshall’s/HomeGoods should start putting their XL sheets out in displays soon - the quality of the sheets is usually very good (name brands) and the prices decent - my D1 used her one set of sheets from TJ for 4 + years and S has used his for 3 years and are still in good shape.

The Five Below sheets are sold individually (to keep the price/sheet within their $5 limit, of course), and are 100% polyester (microfiber?). I sprang for one set for my D to try out on her bed at home over the summer. They were available in blue, pink or tan (she picked blue). They’re a bit slick-feeling (although not as much so as the dollar-store microfiber sheets I bought for her brother’s bed some years ago). They’re also only 9" deep - so they might not fit if she has to add a foam topper & mattress pad to her dorm bed mattress to make the bed comfortable. We will get to see her assigned dorm room during freshman registration next month, though, so I’ll reserve final judgment on the sheets until after I’ve seen her dorm bed. Thus far, however, I’m leaning against buying more Five Below sheets.

Stores like Bed Bath and Beyond will also sell inexpensive sets come schooltime. Ditto for Big Lots. And the tshirt material stretch sheets can be bought in regular twin and will fit fine, though they stretch out in the wash.

do they make XLong - (Xtra-Deep) Twin Sheets? For the XLong Mattress Topper I purchased as a gift at the suggestion of many on this forum as a “must-have” for the dorm?

also, i can’t speak for other colleges but our beds were very thin and not very comfortable. Even with the mattress topper and whatnot 9 inches would have been plenty. My current bed is horrible to buy sheets for because its so thick!

All those suggestions are good but there are online sites as well, I’ve used RHL.org to get some essentials for the dorm.

RHL (Resident Hall Linens) likely HAS what you need, but the quality is lacking and the prices are high. We have expat friends who bought these for the convenience factor. Their kids quickly replaced the substandard and rough sheets and thin towels RHL provided.

If it were me, I’d be heading to Target soon. They will have a huge selection of dorm “stuff” including sheets.

And as Fendergirl noted…this xlong twin mattresses are extra narrow and extra thin in most cases!

We used Bed Bath and Beyond. Save those 15% off coupons!

We bought a few things @ Bed Bath & Beyond last weekend (bedrest, microwavable plastic plates, etc.) & used some of the 20% off coupons I’d saved. We did also order one of the package deals from RHL, though (I liked Dormco’s better price and customization options on most components; D liked RHL’s towels & patterned comforters better, though).

Has anyone had any problem using BB&B coupons that are expired? Also, someone told me that you can use one coupon for up the three items. Is that true?

Seems that every BBB is different - you just have to see what your store follows.
