“Higher Ground”

Oh sorry you asked for * good* movies

“Back to School” with Rodney Dangerfield “see me when you have no class” and a great over the top bit by the great Sam Kinison. Filmed in part at “Great Lakes University” aka UW Madison.

Also the “War at Home” was a very good documentary on the anti-war movement at UW.

A new film with Zach Braff (Scrubs) filmed in Madison last summer and comes out in the fall.

One on One

Okay, not college, but the coming of age aspect of the movie still makes me laugh and cry

Summer of 42

I know you’re looking for dramas, but some great comedies are:

Revenge of the Nerds
Back to School
Van Wilder

One drama about life right after college is St. Elmo’s Fire.

Prozac Nation–depression and drug addiction at Harvard

Admissions–for various reasons, a girl sabotages her college interviews.

Neither one is great; both were worth seeing, I thought.

SEARCHINGAVALON!!!

GREAT to “see” you!!!

I saw “Admissions.” I thought it was an interesting little film–like you said, not great, but worth seeing.

~b.

Drive He Said–1971 bb movie directed by Jack Nicholson.

and Drumline. Great music.

I saw that being made last summer. One lunchtime I was sitting in the Union, “The Lakefront on Langdon” overlooking the outdoor terrace and Lake Mendota, and all of a sudden what looked like scores of 10-12 year old girls seemed to appear out of nowhere. Then some guy, who turned out to be Zach Braff, appeared outside and all these female children started jumping around and ran outside. Very strange. Braff appeared to be greatly amused and was very kind to them–talking and signing autographs.

School Daze, with Lawrence Fishburne. Spike Lee, director
Lords of Discipline, with David Keith.

Not a movie but the TV series “A Different World” was pretty good. It depicted an HBCU.

“Dead Poets Society” with Robin Williams
“Educating Rita” with Michael Caine
“Genius” with Val Kilmer
“The Perfect Score”…they attempt to steal the SAT test. It is a very good movie.

Comedy of course…
“How I Got into College” Very good movie to explain the pressure. I watched it the other day. Love it.

Sappy…
“The Prince and Me” with Julia Stiles

I almost forgot a great one…
“October Sky”…I am sure you have seen it. Now that is certainly inspiring.

I think it’s called Real Genius

Yep it is called “Real Genius”…thanks!
I have been thinking about this thread. I watch alot of movies.

Less Than Zero

That was really a sad film. Good tunes.

“Patch Adams” was a great movie depicting life in Med School.

Oooh, I finally remembered one; “Breaking Away”

Not a heavy drama, but a nice story about the rivalry between students and the locals, aka “the cutters”. Probably as good as any of the others mentioned here.
