i always hear about people who have taken really fun sounding college classes, like a literary class on harry potter and a history class all about the beatles, and things like that

im not asking about those specific classes (although i would looove to take both of them), but im just asking current students/anyone who happens to know…do you know of any out of the ordnary classes that UF offers?

I know the honors programs have some “out of the ordinary classes.” You dont have to be in the honors program to take them. There are two options: talk to the honors adviser to see if they will allow you to sign up for it or wait till the end of drop/add and if there are seats available, then you can add it.

Classes include: Magic and Witchcraft, Spirituality and the Health Sciences, Age of the Blockbuster, Chick Lit: Junk or Genre?, Icelandic Sagas: The Sword and the Cross, (Immigration, Race, Gender and Ethnicity in American Culture), (Seafarers, Sultans, Slaves and Spices: The Indian Ocean in Antiquity), The Tao of Star Trek, etc.

You really have to look, but UF does offer off-the-wall classes for non-honors students. Most of these classes fill up pretty quickly. If I remember correctly, I did find a class called “Underwater Basket Weaving.” Sounds entertaining

I’m pretty sure there’s a section of Magic and Witchcraft open outside the Honors program. Though I am pretty jealous of the Honors college: those courses look so awesome!

I also hear in Ancient Egypt that you learn how to read hieroglyphs. But I don’t know how out of the ordinary that is.

My roommate took a forensics class where they tell you all the tricks when it comes to solving cases. He was also disturbed by the fact that a guy in a trench coat was in the class actively taking notes O.o

the format of Women and Politics in Israel with Prof. Woods is really cool (small class + we put our desks in a circle, had coffee, and discussed the assigned readings, which were pretty provocative)
