I’m in my junior year of highschool and i’m interested in becoming a radiologist. I’ve read that a major in biology and attending an ivy league college isn’t necessary. I was wondering if there are any colleges and medical schools you would recommend that i look up to? And does attending a certain college help to prepare me for medical school?

Check out all the links within that post! I think you’ll have a very complete answer to your question by then. Good luck!

There is a misunderstanding in this question. NO UG will prepare you for the Med. School. NONE. Do not choose UG thinking about Med. School. Choose the one where you belong, you, personally with ALL your personal goals, traints, interests, current ones and potential ones, your whole entire being. Med. School will work out only if your UG years are NOT miserable, if everything works for you at your college, if you are happy with your choice for 4 very important years of your life. As a bonus, it is great if UG is either free or very cheap in case you end up attending Med. School. I will definitely have a major impact on your future.

Miami speaks the truth. From the stats I’ve seen (at least from my own school), it does seem like Ivy league grads have a slight edge in med school admissions. However, attending an Ivy is by no means necessary to get into a good med school. Additionally, if you get into an Ivy but are not truly happy there, then you would arguably do worse than you would have if you had gone to a state school.

FWIW, I found myself to be well prepared for med school but I still agree with everything else Miami says. Of course ivy league grads have an edge but that’s because ivy league students are stronger students to begin with. The cream generally rises to the top no matter where you are.

Top schools aren’t doing anything special to prepare students for the MCAT or med school.

Attending an ivy isn’t necessary to attend med school…and all US MD schools are good…all are very good. We don’t have subpar MD schools in this country.
