Are there white parents who act like Asian parents?

<p>i know generally speaking asian parents are very uptight about sat scores, gpa, etc… but are there white parents who are like this also? my white friends’ parents dont really care where my friends go.</p>

you won’t say anything about how your friend’s jewish parents act, in fear of being racist, yet you will ask if there are any white parents that act like asian parents?</p>

<p>First of all, saying how your friend’s parents act isn’t being racist. if they’re uptight, then they’re uptight. you’re also just saying that they happen to be jewish.
however, if you are extrapolating that then all jewish parents are like that, then yeah, that’s racist (if you consider being jewish to be a race, which some people do).</p>

<p>secondly, of course there are some white parents that are like the stereotype for asian parents! there are all kinds of people, and it doesn’t matter what color they are!</p>

<p>Because the majority of them(especially those whose parents were born in China) are very hardworking. Hard work leads to high scores and, subsequently, the stereotype.</p>

<p>Of course – check out the parents at top publics (such as New Trier HS or Bronxville HS) or at privates (who do you think are the ones who are standing in line four hours overnight in Manhattan to get their kids into the top …PRE-SCHOOL, never-mind those who try to bribe their way into the top privates in Manhattan).</p>

<p>And really, this only really applies to certain Asian IMMIGRANTS – usually those who aren’t financially well-off and have sacrificed everything to get their kids a better shot (tho in many SE Asian communities, higher education isn’t seen as a realistic goal).</p>

<p>The same can be said of immigrants from Eastern Europe or Africa (where education is seen as the key to economic stability).</p>

I would have to think about it.</p>

<p>^ Sure there are - for instance, black immigrant parents from Africa.</p>

<p>Parents sometimes send their kids back to Africa for a year during HS to get back in touch w/ their heritage - and the kids will say how things are much more competitive academically in Africa.</p>

<p>^ oh yeah that thing about africans (literally africans) is true. at my school only 3 people got into harvard, all sons of recent african immigrants. they weren’t african americans but real AFRICANS!! ZULUS!!!</p>
