Are these colleges reaches?

University of Illinois Urbana Champaign
University of Texas Austin
University of Florida
Any UC

Illinois resident, prospective civil engineering major

UW GPA: 3.37
W GPA: 3.43

Have taken honors pre-calc and will take AP calc AB; the rest of my classes are regular. I am expecting to have an UW gpa of 3.4 and a weighted gpa of 3.5 by the time I graduate. My grades have increased steadily every semester since freshman year, as I have earned at least a 3.6 gpa since. I have also earned a 4.0 gpa this spring, for the first time.

ECs: Very active in the band program since freshman year (symphonic band, jazz band), have also joined the orchestra, pit orchestra (musical and variety show), Tri-M

Also, would you say that the following colleges are matches/safeties?

University of Tennessee Knoxville - Match?
University of Arizona - Match?
University of Central Florida - Match?

University of Illinois Chicago - Safety?
Arizona State - Safety?

TX is a huge reach. ILL is high match because your instate. Florida is a match I think. The other five at the bottom you should be in at.

Thanks rdh1991.

Oh yeah, here are my class ranks:

UW: 58/556 = Top 11%/Top 89%
W: 96/556 = Top 18%/Top 82%

UC’s are a huge reach. Out of states compete for a limited amount of seats with really great students from all around the world.

SAT’s?

I would put UF as a reach too, unless your SAT was stellar (1400+).
UCF- Match
AZ St.- Safety

That’s all I know…

ACT is a 26

English & Science - 25
Reading - 23
Math - 30

I would also say that Texas and UCs are big reaches. UT fills like 80% with in-state top 10%. The rest of the spots you will be competing for with in and out of staters and internationals. I would say raise the ACT to a 28-29 to be competitive. Maybe higher.

well uc merced is not a big reach, nor uc riverside. uci, ucsb, and ucsc is like eh. ucla, ucsd, and ucb is like forget it.
no offense

^shows the acceptance rates instate for all the UCs, might be helpful.

You are definitely in at UTK. My dad and uncle are alumni there and Knoxville is probably the greatest college town there is. Everyone is really friendly, weather is excellent, 0 crime.
