hi, i am narrowing safety schs, just need more info than the usual wiki/ sch website variety. has anyone been to/ know anything about the standards of these schs?

Sarah Lawrence
Bennington
Brooklyn College
Eugene Lang

I always think of it as a place that people take courses–the quality of which may vary wildly–as opposed to being a place where people get degrees. But I may be out of date.

Brooklyn College isn’t really an LAC - it’s a campus of the City University of NY, and has 12,000 students. There are many non-traditional (older) and part-time students, so it doesn’t have the same kind of campus culture that an LAC would. Eugene Lang is probably even less a traditional LAC; it would offer more of an urban culture than anything resembling campus life. SLC and Bennington are more traditional colleges, but their reputations are strongly counter-cultural. Are you intentionally seeking that kind of experience?

Bennington could be a safety for a top student, even accounting for self-selection. Especially if you happen to be male (goes for SLC too, although it’s famous for being quirky in admissions as well as in collegiate reputation).

Bennington College in Vermont has about 520 students, two-thirds female and one-third male. Mostly a performing arts school, it also has a good number of English majors.

thanks for all your help. i am looking for a good LAC as a safety really. i wouldn’t mind if eugene lang & brooklyn differ from that of traditional LACs. I just want to ensure that these schs do provide quality liberal arts education of which degrees are recognised so i that can get into a good graduate school in the future.

besides, i can always transfer to another sch if i am not satisfied. again, i need to know if their credits are accredited and reputable enough for a smooth transfer.
