Are these legit Match Schools 4 me?

Getting ready to apply in a couple weeks. Here’s my stats:

SAT 1330 (690 Math)
WGPA 4.0
UWGPA 3.7
1stQ grades this semester
5 - A’s
2 - B’s (both are AP classes)
Desired Major: Applied Math
EC - Vocal Arts/Selected for All-State Honor Choir in CA as Tenor

Match Schools:
UCSD
UCSB
UC Davis

Really hoping for Davis. My SAT scores fit the “Middle 50%” for all 3 but are these realistic Match schools for me?

Looks like my UC GPA is:
Weighted/Capped 3.77
UC Score - 242
Within Top 9% of CA graduates.

your GPA is a little light for all of those schools Use the Frosh GPA by Yr tab here to see the threshold GPA from each UC

You should apply but, SDSU, UCR, UCM and CSULB are all more viable options.

Good luck

If below 4.0, these schools will not be Match schools but High Match to Low Reach schools.

UCLA: 11.7%
UCSD: 38.7%
UCSB: 53.6%
UCD: 56.5%
UCI: 52.1%

25th - 75th percentiles for SAT:

UCLA: 1280-1500
UCSD: 1250-1470
UCSB: 1210- 1450

UCI: 1190-1420
UCSC: 1170-1380
UCR: 1090-1310
UCM: 1020-1230

Match schools would be UCR, UCM and UCSC. Average UC GPA for these schools is under a 4.0.

Senior grades not considered for admission purposes only 10-11th for the GPA calculation and 9-11th for a-g course requirements.

Apply widely and make sure you have a safety school or two on you list.

Thanks for the reality check. Already had SDSU, CSULB, & SJSU as my Safety schools but was really hoping for UC option other than the 3 that you listed. Looks like the “C” I got in Honors Chemistry in 10th grade was a dealbreaker. Oddly enough my HS has now made that same class an AP course. :frowning:

Definitely apply since your essays, EC’s and HS course rigor are all taken into consideration, since you never know with the UC’s. Just apply widely so you have a few options.

Thanks for the response. Just wondering, in the event I don’t get into my preferred UC’s . . . would it be better in the long run to go with one of my safety CSU choices or pursue a UC choice by going the TAG route at a local CC? Obviously there’s a difference with cost and logistics but I’m curious about how challenging or feasible the TAG route is. Also missing out on the initial “college experience” and being out on my own. Thank you in advance for any thoughts you can offer on the subject.

I think you will have a few UC acceptances depending upon where you apply. However, if you are set on going to a UC and you do not get into your choice UC, then TAG is a great option. UCLA/UCB and UCSD do not participate in TAG while UCSB and UCI have some majors that are not eligible for TAG.

SDSU, CSULB, the Cal Polys, CSU Fullerton, SJSU etc… can give an excellent education so it really depends upon what you plan to study and your post graduation career goals.

Maintaining the required GPA and completing all the TAG course requirements can be challenging but like anything in life, if you have the right mind set, you can accomplish anything.
