Are these majors very competitive?

I want to major in French, but some schools don’t have that specific option in their “academic interests” on common app. But anyways, these are the 3 academic interests I am putting in on my common application, and i’m wondering if they are very competitive in admissions/hard to get accepted into, or the opposite?

I’m mostly asking for American University (DC).

-Foreign languages, literatures, and linguistics
-Liberal arts and sciences, general studies, and humanities
-History

Not nearly as competitive as a major like pre-med for example. Those are decently chill majors I would say.

That’s what I’m thinking. The most competitive ones must be anything regarding medicine, engineering, and perhaps science I’m thinking.
But does this mean that admissions to school/college of arts and sciences would be easier to get into, or tougher to get into? By that I mean, maybe AU don’t need to accept that many arts and sciences students, or something like that?

Premed is not a major, it just refers to the coursework need to apply to med schools. You can major in ANYTHING and still be premed.

There are relatively few occasions where major makes any difference in college admissions, because students change majors often. It is usually only an issue when you are applying for a specific department within a college (eg. engineering). A humanities vs. science major is not going to make any difference at AU.

Je ne sais pas, desole.

Bonne Chance!

Okay, thank you for the reply! That makes sense, I thought that might be the case, but secretly hoped it wasn’t :)
