Are these parchment results legit? (Chances Help)

Hey so i really enjoy the site Parchment. However, how accurate are these results?

First of all i’m an international student from canada, does parchment take this into account? (yes i did put international student in the profile building section)

My stats:

Unweighted gpa:

3.3-3.5

(Keep in mind this is tough to calculate, we don’t use the GPA system here and also keep in mind that Canadian scores are scaled way higher to the american scale, Canadian public schools grade and test students MUCH harder than American schools do. )

To give you a better idea, The average for ALL my classes from grades 10-12 (the canadian transcript only includes years 10, 11 and 12)

is 75%

ACT Score: 21
ACT: English: 24
ACT Math: 19
I know i know its not the best but i might retake in the future, (tell me if i should)

AP Classes : Honors Physics 11

Ethnicity: Mixed

Extracurricular:
Lots of volunteer hours, helped with school events, Lots of work experience at retail stores, Played in city youth league soccer team, won championship!

and here are the results i got from Parchment for the schools i am intrested in:

Cal Poly

80% /
California State University, Fullerton

89% /

California State University, Long Beach

76% /
California State University, Los Angeles

91% /

California State University, Northridge

94% /

Loyola Marymount University

73% /
University of California, Davis

75% /
University of California, Irvine

87% /
University of California, San Diego

75% /
University of California, Santa Barbara

74% /
University of California, Santa Cruz

92% /

Please tell me how accurate this is, Thanks.

Parchment is way off here…

Cal Poly SLO: Reach (pay attention to major)
CSUF: Low match/Match
CSULB: Reach (pay attention to major)
CSULA: Low match
CSUN: Safety
LMU: Reach
UCD: Unreachable
UCI: Unreachable
UCSD: Unreachable
UCSB: Unreachable
UCSC: Reach (can you pay full-freight?)

Best to keep US schools for grad school, especially for PhD…

Hey can you explain Reach vs Match vs Safety to me?

Sorry im not completely familiar with the terms yet
and yes i can pay full tuition

Parchment is useless. Better to use your unweighted GPA/ACT score and use the common dataset for each school. Just google common dataset. Just based off your ACT score, all the UC’s and Cal Poly would be reaches. You would have a decent chance at Cal State Northridge, Los Angeles. Fullerton would be a High Match and Long Beach a reach. You need an ACT of around 26-30 for the UC’s and Cal Poly. Long Beach/Fullerton/Loyola around a 23-26 would be good. You definitely need to retake and aim for those numbers.

@Gumbymom‌
thanks for the responses ! I think i might take the ACT again but while i do that, i will apply to a few CSU’s

quick question do you how long does it take to get a result back once you apply to a CSU?

@Gumbymom‌ is the best here for giving chances for UC/CSU schools.

Yes, parchment is nothing but a waste of zero and one

@emilking‌ Are you a Junior? CSU and UC application deadline is Nov 30 for the following Fall 2016 admission. Depending upon your Stats, you can hear back as Early as December or as late as April.

@Gumbymom‌
actually i graduated! in 2014
im looking to attend fall 2015 if possible. If not then winter or spring 2016 latest

It’s probably the chance of you getting rejected. lol jk no they are not legit.

@emilking‌: So you have already applied to all these schools for Fall 2015 based on parachment chances?? If you applied for Fall 2015, nothing can be done with your ACT score. CSUN and CSULA would be your best chance at a Low Match/Safety. CSUF is a High Match only because of your ACT score which is below the 25th percentile. The rest would be Reaches.

Heirarchy of chancing:
Safety-Definite exceptance 90%
Low Match- Very good chance 70-80%
Match- Good Chance 50-60%
High Match- Decent chance 30-40%
Low Reach- Little Chance 10-20%
Reach: Very little chance 5-10%
High Reach: Impossible <5%

@Gumbymom‌

i haven’t applied yet, i checked the CSU site and deadline for their schools is June 1st for international students. I think im just going to apply to as my CSU’s as i can.

Also , when chancing did you take into my account my average percentage or my gpa? (like i said we dont use the gpa system here and canadian marks are scaled higher.)

Anyway , thanks for the explanation

Not all CSU’s have June 1 deadlines. SJSU is April, SDSU and San Marcos are May 1. You need to check each individual Cal State website to confirm the deadlines. When chancing you, I was not as concerned about your GPA but your ACT score. Your ACT is at the average as a whole for the US but not for many of the Cal States. You should google common dataset for each Cal State of interest, so see the 25th and 75th percentile ACT scores. For a Match you want to be above the 50th percentile. This will give you a better idea of which schools to target. Here is an example on page 9 for San Diego State:

or page 6 for Long Beach
