Are these Universities good enough for an International seeking low contribution? [3.78 GPA, rank 1]

Oh it needs to uploaded through my GC, I’ll contact him

My teacher does not have option to upload the uptional part it seems.

I really don’t want to take a gap year, I am already the oldest in my school.

You are right, I asked them about the financials as they stated it vaguely, I am waiting for a reply

Yes Indeed they have a later deadline, I shall look into the scholarships part.

Thank you

Thank you so much for the reply!

these both are like a bit different, I am going through a scholarship committee run in my home country. They like shortlist people for the scholarships, I might have a great chance for a tuition waiver if I choose between these.

Have you already chosen one or are you still deciding?

I got to write a handwritten essay for Wayne, I’ll hold it for a while.

they also require Evaluation

I think I can send unofficial now and official later.

Thank you

chosen syracuse, there are some budget differences, I have emailed them about it.

The COA without tuition is like 30k and they state 18k.

It looks like the lower number is the housing and food and the 30k is all the costs added together

I can’t imagine Syracuse will work. It’s very expensive - but they have gotten aggressive domestically. I’d imagine they’d want International as full pay. It is a very well known school but not sure it works here. But you can try. But I would do one that meets full need. Syracuse does not.

Also please note the cost for health insurance. I think every college requires health insurance, but the costs can vary significantly. At one of my kid’s colleges it was around 1800 a year; at the other’s college it was closer to $4,000 a year . However, at the $4,000 a year one, they provided additional financial aid to cover that specific cost.

Does anyone else have other information about required health insurance that might be helpful?

IME that’s a reasonable range for annual health insurance costs for international students. Meet full need schools will often include the cost of health insurance in their FA packages. For schools that don’t meet full need, it’s relatively uncommon that they would pick up the full cost of health insurance for students with substantial need.

Thanks. I find it problematic that the colleges don’t include the health insurance costs in the COA for international students.

I understand not including it in the cost for domestic students, because many of them will have already existing family health insurance that will be acceptable, but from what I have learned, international students will almost always need to get US-based health insurance and thus I think that cost should be noted in the COA for international students.

I agree they all should…some do, many don’t. OP should make sure to add this cost to each financial aid offer that doesn’t include health insurance costs in the beginning COA. Some schools have this year’s health insurance cost on their websites so OP can check there to start with.

I thought living costs meant everything from food to board and also the summer housing. I got a shock.

Health insurance is very expensive in the US.

Nope. Make sure to add health care costs to any financial aid offer that doesn’t include it, because that is mandatory to have during the school year.

Summer costs are never included…I saw the discussion above about this, I would counsel you to return home for the summers. It’s unlikely you would be able to earn enough money in an on-campus summer job to pay for housing and food. One step at a time though, for now focus on your applications!

Yes, probably over half your budget would go to summer living and insurance. Depending on where you attend - if it’s in the middle of nowhere, rent might by $400+. If you are in a pricey city, $1500+ - just for rent for one month. Then you have to eat.

And insurance.

I admire your persistence and you’re this far in - but yes, we’re all learning - short of a full ride, it’s tough for international.

But he could find a roommate to save costs

Yes, that was assuming roommates, etc.

If you’re in a low cost area.

I suppose if there are others and they double and triple in a single room, sure.

Well, let’s hope something even comes in at the edge of affordability. Right now, it’s early to worry about these things I suppose.

Yes. For all of us, not just college students.

I switched two schools (before one was limited to 10th grade), the previous school counselor sent a scanned copy of my transcript to my principal. The old school is very far from my house. Should I ask my counselor to get physical copy of the transcripts? Or is the electronic submission enough.

One more, is the scanned format okay? Or does it need to be like a pdf version?
