Are they saving rejections for last?

I got this message

"We have reviewed your application. We will inform you by postal mail when a decision is made. " - updated Feb 2nd, then same message but updated Feb 3rd.

It’s the 7th, 5 days since I got first seen that. No mail, nothing. Does this mean they rejected me, but not gonna send it intil March? My gpa is not too bad, 3.4 unweighted with 5 ap classes and 1950 SAT (1370 old score). Should and could I call them?

Also my class schedule went up it rigor and difficulty then that of the one I reported to them.

Hello! Nguoi viet ha? =D. Try checking your unofficial transcript. If it load, you should be in. If not… then it’s not looking too good.

viet0wnage: i would definitely call them. tell them that your stats have gone up, etc. it could change you from a rejection/waitlist to an acceptance. it wont hurt at all  also, they don’t always send out mail immediately after they change your status to ‘we have reviewed your application.’

Oooooh, also, I was rejected but my status never changed from “we have recieved all materials necessary to review your application”. Like, it never said they had reviewed it before I got denied so this would be a good sign! :D

@viet0wnage: did being a vietnamese male help or hurt you? just wondering. sorry if youre a female though, i just cant really see a female having 0wnage in their name haha

^ where do I check the unofficial transcript

^ Go to myuw page and add content. Unofficial Transcript is under Student Personal Services.

If are already logged in then try this link.

@ilikeuw - i don’t think Vietnamese is considered an underrepresented minority at UW

ilikeUW “did being a vietnamese male help or hurt you? just wondering. sorry if youre a female though, i just cant really see a female having 0wnage in their name haha”

IDK about Vietnamese in particular, but I believe most universities have a higher standard for asians and whites then when compared to other races, simply because there is more applicants of the asian ethnicity. Being Vietnamese, though, gave me a interesting background, culture, and perspective which allowed me to write, in my opinion, a good essay.

BTW. I got accepted! But… They are classifying me as out of state student when I have been going to school here for over a year and my legal guardian has been for 5. Gotta call them up on this.

Congrats, viet0wnage!

I think that universities DO have a higher standard for Asians and Caucasians, but probably because they look at the test scores and compare, “Look, this <insert type=”" of=“” asian=“”> got a 1600 on his/her SAT, but <insert same=“” type=“” of=“” asian=“”> got a 2390!" Even with WASL/ITBS/any other standardized testing, the averages for Asians and Caucasians are higher than other ethnic groups. In a way, there is a bit of reverse discrimination against them in some schools, such as the UC’s.</insert></insert>

I agree with what you said about interesting cultural background, etc. However, I think any culture, even English, Spanish, Norwegian, etc… can supply an interesting enough story for an essay if the applicant is involved in his/her culture far enough. There are lots of large Caucasian communities, such as the Polish, Russian, and Irish(?) around Western Washington.

that’s so lame. the reverse discrimination thing. congratulations though. and just wondering, but what were your extracurriculars like?

Extracurriculars? Probably 50-100 hours of volunteering lol. For some reason, I always end up having alot of different tutoring as E.C., the Americorps in Particular. No high rank in any club. In other words, nothing spectacular. I think it was the essay, because my friend, student body president, got rejected. It’s tough to tell though, UW is wierd this year, really unsystematic.

thanks for the info viet. i think my extracurrics will help me out with my bad GPA. im also aiming for a high sat…im happy UW is unsystematic though cause im on the lower end :D

@ilikeUW-UW likes to call itself a ‘holistic’ application process school. GPA and SAT/ACT doesnt mean EVERYTHING, but ECs, and essays make a difference.
