Are transfer decisions legally binding?

I will soon be heading out to UNCG for my first semester of college, but looking ahead, I’m thinking that there may be a chance that I might want to transfer to UNC Chapel Hill.

Coming out of high school, I always wanted to go to UNC but picked UNCG because they offered me the most in merit aid, they are close to my hometown, and I wanted to start off at a smaller college. However, my parents are moving to the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area of NC and many of my friends plan on heading out to the UNC/NC State after a year or two, so it wouldn’t be unreasonable if I suddenly wanted to move closer to a school near my family/old friends.

So my question is, if I apply to UNC as a transfer student, is the decision legally binding? If I’m accepted, will I have the ability to deny my acceptance in the case that I’m perfectly happy with the school I’m at by the time I receive my decision?

You can apply to transfer to schools and if admitted you are not required to attend. Many potential transfer students apply to multiple schools. You may apply to transfer, be admitted, and still decide to stay at your first school.
