Are UC colleges better than Cal States?

If one graduates from UC Berkeley, can that person find a job immediately and easily? How about Cal Poly Pomona? This is for electrical engineering majors.

This is an overly simplistic question. A lot depends on GPA, courses taken, internship and other relative experience, interview skills, etc. If you think that the name on a diploma is going to bring “a job immediately and easily” then you are in for quite a surprise…

Your question and description are somewhat at odds. Define better. UC Berkeley is a WAY better, higher ranked school than Pomona. Pomona is only mediocre, really. If you can manage to get into UCB or UCLA or even UCSD I wouldn’t give Pomona a second look.

That being said, finding a job isn’t immediate or easy. Sure, a good school will help, but it also depends on the student and their ability to grasp their opportunities.

Knowledge10: I know on other threads you’ve discussed what you want and hope for. But your CR (330 ) and Writing (310) SATs are in the 6th and 4th percentile overall. By scoring so low, your options are EXTREMELY limited. You need to be speaking about realities. Berkeley is not even remotely possible for you. Why your counselor staff did not try to dissuade you from applying to some of the schools you put on your list is extremely puzzling.

Well, my school and my counselors said that I can get into all the colleges that I applied to. That’s why I’m asking.

They are lying.

You applied to MIT and Cal Berkeley with a 330/670/310 in your CR/M/W on your SAT. 94% and 96% of people scored BETTER than you in CR and W.

Your intransigence is startling. That’s why people were so fed up with you on your other thread. Your choice of actions are not rooted in reality. People here wish you only the best – yet you reject advice that’s difficult.

Then they must be crazy. But I wonder why they’re lying to me.

Either there is more to the story than you are describing here, or they are crazy. Sorry to say it, but your chances are extremely slim with the scores and grades you report for those colleges. I hope you applied to some back up Cal states.

The only Cal States that I’ve applied are Pomona and SLO.

SLO in engineering is as hard to get into or harder than some of the UCs. Maybe Pomona will be an option. If you are a CA resident, you will have pretty good community college options, and can transfer after a couple of years if you are determined to go to a UC or very selective Cal State. Good luck!

But can I finish community college in 1 year instead of 2 years? If so, then I’d go to Santa Monica College. Also, can I learn computer programming in Santa Monica College? What’s the highest level of math that SMC offers?

Look it up yourself. That’s how you learn things.

No offense but I didn’t even know it was remotely possible to score 330 and 310 if you actually try

With your SAT - and a 3.5 CSU GPA could get into CPP. The others are probably a stretch unless you have a GPA od 4+. If you have a bunch of AP credits, you certainly can get through SMC quickly and transfer - perhaps even to a UC via TAG.

Good luck.

I heard that cal states graduates can’t get jobs unlike UC graduates.

Cal state graduates can get jobs if they are good. It doesn’t matter which school you go to as long as you can perform the job well. If not, there’s always McDonalds or some fast food joint. <a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube;

“I heard that cal states graduates can’t get jobs unlike UC graduates.”
Not entirely true haha!
I’m a Cal State student in Sacramento and believe it or not, the college of engineering return on investment there is in the top 20 (based off of affordablecollegesonline.org) out of all colleges in the nation (or world). There are two or three CSU’s on that list and UC Berkeley is the only UC on it [Not ABET accredited for EE! :)].
(More like top 10 for my situation and how much I’m spending on tuition and specific major plan)

And more to the fact, hearing what employers say, they rather hire from a school such as Sacramento State than a UC because the classes and labs are industry oriented / practical rather than the theoretical found at UCs–the UC students they hire take about a year to be trained while Sacramento State is ready to go. (I attest to this from my personal experience as well, but do not know exactly what it is like at a UC). At the CSU, the professors get to know you personally and will devote individual time to you (as far as electrical engineering, the upper division narrows out to 100-200 students). Ah, and there are plenty of internships to work with to get actual experience.

I work with a lot more CSU graduates than UC graduates.
