Is one competing within the applicant pool of a specific undergraduate school or within the applicant pool of the entire university? For example, at some schools, it is easier to get into a specific undergraduate school (engineering, communications, etc.) than another. Does this apply to Northwestern? Do admissions officers take into account which undergraduate school you are applying to?
And if let’s say hypothetically like 20 students from your high school are applying to Northwestern but around only 3 are applying to let’s say, the School of Communications, does this change anything? Like are you competing with those other 19 students or only the other 2?

You’re competing against the entire applicant pool, not just people from your high school. It doesn’t matter how many people apply from your school. 2. Yes, undergrad school matters a lot.

Depending on your HS, it may be true that you’re competing directly with your HS’s other applicants, jkaufman is incorrect. However, he is correct that which school you applied to makes a huge difference, and I can’t comment on whether you’re competing with everyone from your HS across undergraduate colleges within the university.

thanks for the replies

keep it comin

You are competing mainly against all incoming Freshman, from everywhere, that are applying to a specific undergraduate college (ie. McCormick School of Engineering, etc.)

i’m bored so i’m bumping this thread

bumpin again?
