Are you going to watch the Oscars this year?

Isn’t it enough that Anne Hathaway is beautiful and a wonderful actress and makes every dress she wears look fabulous (though that last one made her look downright nekkid) and was totally classy and came out smelling like a rose when it turned out she’d picked a very bad boyfriend–but it turns out she can sing showtunes too??? That girl is mightily blessed.

Speaking of dresses, I would kill for that little number Annette Bening was wearing. Oprah looked like she was ready to explode out of her top, and Jennifer Hudson did her new figure no favors with that glaring orange monstrosity. Ah, Oscar night, the cattiest night of the year…

Cate Blanchette’s dress reminded me of the CC thread on worst bridesmaids dresses. It definitely seemed like it could be the bridesmaid dress from hell.

I dont’ really know what happened at the Oscars tonight. It started off well but as the night went on James Franco got higher and higher and Anne Hathaway tried to push herself away from her cohost. The gimmicks were cute but I don’t understad why this year was the gear we decided to look back on the past. The ending was beyond awkward with the PS 22 Chorus and then bringing out the winner and losers of the night.

With the Awards everything I predicted won. I was hoping for an upset in Supporting Actress but Melissa Leo was wonderful in The Fighter. Christian Bale was his usual crazy but subdued guy. Natalie Portman was graceful and elegant. Colin Firth should have won many years ago but there will be more in the future for him.

With Directing and Best Picture people are angry. David Fincher always go against Hollywood standards and maybe this time he thought an award would come his way. Tom Hooper and The King’s Speech deserved their win but they should listen to Steven Spielberg.

“In a moment, one of these ten movies will join a list that includes on The Waterfront, Midnight Cowboy, The Godfather and The Deer Hunter. The other nine will join a list that includes The Grapes of Wrath, Citizen Kane, The Graduate and Raging Bull.”

It is pleasure to be nominated and a pleasure to lose because you were still in this category with so many amazing individuals.

I loved Cate Blanchett’s dress. I thought it was wearable art and that she pulled if off beautifully.

^I’m with you cartera; I liked Cate Blanchett’s dress. She looked so very classy with gorgeous blue eyes and simple hair style, and the dress was so very unique. I didn’t even notice it at first, since I was mesmerized by her entrance.

I also liked a few of Hathaway’s dresses, especially the one that was cream colored with sequins highlighting her narrow waist (worn during the middle of the show). That brilliant blue number she wore towrds the end was awful; it looked like it was made out of recycled plastic.

I thought Ophrah looked terrible. She has a nice waist, but her boobs looked like they were ready to bop. With all her money (and focus on her looks) couldn’t she get a breast reduction?

And what was with Scarlet Johanssen’s (sp?) hair?

Watching the Jimmy Kimmel after show now. Tom Hanks just did a great spoof clip on Toddlers and Tiaras and Mike Tyson did a great spoof on the King’s Speech called The President’s Speech in which he tries to teach GWB to speak. Very funny.

Anne is a trained stage actor and soprano (although her On My Own spoof sounded as though she could stand a visit or two to her vocal coach).

I was happy with the results for The King’s Speech but I found the show one of the most boring Oscars in a while. Everything was predictable, the show was very slow-moving, and the hosts, as the evening wore on, seemed very out of place. James Franco seemed increasingly uncomfortable (and, as someone else mentioned, increasingly high) and Anne Hathaway seemed like a teenaged fan introducing some of the presenters. A little poise and professionalism, Anne.

James Franco, I though, was just awful. He must have been on something. Anne Hatthaway was fine, but I think she will forever be associated with “whoooooooo!!!”, her more-appropriate-for-a-football-game-scream, which could be heard after nearly every winner’s announcement.

I expected to be annoyed by Anne Hathaway, but I wasn’t. Franco seemed awfully stiff. Was he supposed to be the straight man of the team?

The only award I strongly disagreed with was for original score, which I thought should have gone to “Inception.” Although maybe that awesome giant BLAWWWWWWW from the low brass was considered a sound effect instead of part of the score.

Franco = Hunt, you are right, “stiff” is the word I kept thinking as I watched him. Bring Hathaway back next year, but get someone FUNNY (not just handsome) with her.

Hathway = I loved the gray dress she wore for a little while in the middle (after the tux, before the gold twirly one). She is a class act.

Colin Firth = I was happy to see him win, and thought his speech was also a class act.

Tom Hooper = He won me over with the advice to listen to your mother :D

I liked Anne and agree that James was stiff - what is up with that? She looked great and I enjoyed her enthusiasm and appreciated her giddiness. She’s young! These are the Oscars but you can’t take it too seriously.

I also agree about the score - the Inception score is much more memorable IMO.

After hearing from the writer, the director and Firth - I love the King’s Speech even more!

I read that Rachel Zoe charged in the 6 figures to dress her so those dresses should have been spectacular. I thought she could have done with 3.

I thought she was a little over the top giddy too and I think James Franco was just being himself.

^^^ I agree that the number of gowns was excessive. How many were there? Six, seven, eight, more? I like Anne Hathaway, but thought it was to the point of inappropriate.

I was waiting for one, just one laugh out loud moment. Never happened.

And James Franco, what’s with him? Is it just me or is he not good looking at all? Not charming? Not funny? How did he get to host?

Anne Hathaway looked great but was obviously trying too hard to save a sinking show.

Then there were the dreary (I have to thank everyone in the movie) acceptance speeches. I thought these people were in show business and knew how to put on a show.

Yes, I was glad The King’s Speech won. Although I also like The Social Network.

The last one she wore should have been left on the rack - it was awful. It had a faux naked look with seams in all the wrong places. I liked the cobalt blue.

I took my Longest Oscar Nap Ever. I usually only nod off during the Irving Thalberg presentation. This time I missed a huge chunk of the show. Dull, dull dull. (Loved Billy Crystal, however.)

Finally saw Cate’s dress. Ewwww. Parts of it were nice. All together? Not so much.

I didn’t like it on the red carpet and haven’t seen a picture that does it justice but I thought it was gorgeous on stage. It was Spring incarnate.

can’t believe we actually stayed up to watch this awful show; James Franco was actually worse than I expected…

and I agree with ALL the assessments on the dresses…

Very glad we TIVOed Jimmy Kimmel (we finally remembered this year!!)…will watch later…

It seems Franco was tweeting away half the time, including sending more than 20 little videos to his fans.
Kind of disrespectful to the audience at hand, especially given the fact he didn’t have much rehearsal time. He could have tried a little harder.
I got the impression he just didn’t want to be there. He was just wooden.

This is funny ““When you’re upstaged by a hologram of Bob Hope, you know it’s time to go home,” my TV exec source snarked.”

I’m glad Colin Firth won for best actor. He deserved it. I liked his speech too.
I watched most of the movies this year and watched the Oscars because of that after two years of not watching.
In retrospect I could have missed it.
