Scarlett’s hair and dress (a classic example of a lace sack!) looked terrible!

I agree that Scarlett could have done better!

I might be tempted to kill to have that body, but if I had it, I would clothe it better. There is the problem: having the wisdom is counter-chronological (my new word) to having the body.

BB - gotta agree. But I think Cate Blanchett’s dress is hideous. What’s with the big circle in the middle that says ‘target’?

I don’t like Cate Blanchett’s dress either. What’s with the yellow at the shoulder and back?

Cate’s dress looks like a badly designed costume of and alien. Does not look appropriate for announcing the winner in the "best “costume design” category. :p

The little girl from True Grit looks so classy and adorable.

Blanchette’s dress: here is a round window (very stiff, architectural construction) and, hey, if I stick my boobs throught it, maybe we have a cool dress…

mafool, post #42, did you mean that youth is wasted on the young!!!

I agree. Her hair is especially bad. Ick to Cate Blanchett’s dress, too.

I’m no fashionista but, if I were going to be on stage at such an event, I would hope I would do so in something classic and lovely (and have good hair, too).

Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit girl) actually designed her own dress. She drew it up and had someone make it. She said it turned out exactly as she designed it on paper.

Can’t Oprah afford a better looking dress?

sunnyflorida,
Not wasted, exactly. Perspective is a great thing and youth, by defintion, will be wanting in that regard. But part of the charm and the freedom of youth is the ability to feel that everything one is doing or being is for the first time. ahh. Feeling old.

Wow… first year the memorial didn’t contain a bunch of names I knew. I recognize maybe a half dozen.

:)

OK… now we’re finally down to the nitty gritty awards.

OK. The children’s chorus at the end was simply wonderful. Worth all the drivel.

So happy for Colin and The King’s Speech!

Could the kids’ choir not have dressed up a bit more? LOL…

I actually liked the “real” look they brought to the event. This is probably what they wear at all their venues, most of which are probably much more casual.

And I agree. Bravo for The King’s Speech!

Loved that The King’s Speech got the awards I thought it really deserved, and I agreed with most of the award choices - glad Alice in Wonderland got Art Direction and Costume Design.

Hated James Franco. He looked incredibly bored and lethargic all night long and never cracked a real joke or anything. Anne was alright, but I’ve never really seen her as someone who’s funny though I think she is really talented and graceful so no real disappointment there.
