For example I know someone who collects anything and everything with Lucille Ball on it (preferably as Lucy Ricardo, but has a few Lucille Ball items as well). And someone else who collects Elvis things.

I know that Jerry Seinfeld has a thing for Superman, and there were even Superman items shown on every episode of his show.

Do you have a favorite ‘icon’ you collect or do you know someone that has an extensive collection?

My DH collects old containers of household and beauty products, from back before everything came in plastic (he runs across them in his work). Among many others, he’s found a glass Bayer asprin bottle, a tin of talcum, a jar of Noxzema, and a classic green Coke bottle.

Once in our own house, we were replacing a medicine cabinet and there in the wall void was a can of Schlitz. It explains a lot about our house.

I don’t know if this counts but my SIL is nut about anything Bruce Springsteen.
She named her dog Bruce. Her license plate says “Badlands”. She has all kinds of Bruce Springsteen collectibles including tons of concert t-shirts. She is 56 years old and recently attended her 51st Bruce Springsteen concert. She took her Mom (my MIL) along with her. It was MIL’s first Bruce concert. She’s 81! She gushed about what a great time she had and how she’d like to do it again. She came home w/ a Bruce coffee mug…uh oh.

PackMom, Bruce Springsteen counts, why not, there are tons of Beatles collectors, right?
LasMa, your H would LOVE my friend’s collection. He’s a retired pharmacist and has an old medicine wall unit (huge!) that is filled with hundreds of antique or very old medicine containers. He travels a lot as well and has picked up items throughout his travels of brands that we in the US know well.

I collect Pearl Jam memorabilia. Tickets & posters to shows I have seen, box sets of re-released vinyl, official & unofficial bootlegs, picks, stickers & t-shirts, and magazines with covers & articles about the band/members. Most everything I get either at shows, through their fan club or at special events.

But still even with all that, I am not as diehard as some. I have only left the country twice to see them, and that was just to Vancouver BC. I didn’t go to PJ20 last year ( their anniversary festival in Wisconsin- but i did go to Detroit to hear Eddie) funny how having two kids in college will put a crimp in your finances.
I also enjoy it all, I don’t go on mad searches to track down “lost” recordings, but I do admit living in Seattle gives me an advantage if I did. Every time I go to the grocery store I walk by the junk shop where Eddie Vedder found that copy of Last Kiss which became their first #1 single( which was really a shame IMO, although I have learned to tolerate it).

My husband collects tools. And toolboxes. I am not sure what came first.

The names are endless, Babe Ruth, JFK, Beetales, Ringling Brothers etc etc… Just turn on the “antique road show” you will see thousands of varieties…

But the MOST collected “icon” in the world is Mao-Tse-tung of China. There are billions of collectibles of him and Billions of followers. No one in the world can compete with Mao.

I know a guy who collects Mickey Mouse stuff. He even wears a Mickey watch (an expensive one).

Personally, I collect little boxes, jars, perfume bottles - pretty things that I admire, stuff with interesting shapes or materials, etc., not necessarily antiquey things like LasMa’s H. I have a number of Incolay boxes, and pick up another one on ebay from time to time. I also like interesting jewelry boxes.

I collect metal lunchboxes from the 70’s and 80’s. I am pretty particular about which ones. So far I have two Sesame Street, Pigs In Space, Evel Kneivel (the jewel of my collection), Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake, three different Holly Hobby, the A Team, Gremlins, Secret of Nimh, Annie, Pink Panther, Peanuts, and Berenstein Bears. My DH bought me some of these as gifts and they are not necessarily my taste but they look pretty cool on top of my kitchen cabinets.

Lunch boxes! I had the coolest Monkees one when I was a kid. Broke the glass insert in the thermos and had to use one of those tartan plaid ones in its place. I was heartbroken.
