It is snowing more heavily now in Boston and they are still calling for 20 to 30 inches.
“Dont like Jim Cantore because of some scummy things he did in his personal life.”
That’s interesting, I’m going to have to google that one. I wonder if his producer feels the same way, which is why he’s always sent to the deadliest weather spots.
H spoke with D in Boston tonight, and her ‘commute’ home on the MTBA took her an hour and a half tonight; she lives about 2.5 miles from work, and ended up walking the last half mile! She usually makes it door-to-door in about 25 minutes. She is hunkered down is just hoping they don’t lose power.
It looks like Boston is really going to get slammed. Hit and miss predictions many places, but it sounds like Boston was a hit.
Just wanted to have five Cavaliers in a row.
I’m late to this thread, but stay safe everyone.
Not that I need any more reasons to like Aaron Rodgers, but I found out tonight that he and Olivia Munn (his girlfriend who we fell in love with on The Newsroom) rescued a Cavalier a couple of months ago… named him Chance, since they gave him a second chance by rescuing him!
And speaking of dogs and Boston getting hammered, D’s dog was not thrilled at all when she had to go out in the snow tonight. She’s only 10 lbs.
That’s amazing that a Cavalier would ever have to be rescued. They are so sweet, people are lining up to pay the money to get them.
Evidently this Cavalier came from an abusive puppy mill (as if there are any puppy mills that aren’t abusive); as I read the story, I assumed it came from a mill that was being shut down.
So sad about puppy mills. Glad the dog was rescued.
Not even windy in south jersey, not even an inch on the ground, and this was supposed to be the worst of the storm. Bust doesn’t come close to this miss.
About a foot and change mid Long Island, winds picking up and snow is very heavy. Another 12 hours or so of snow yet to come.
Monday morning I woke up to a house in the 50s: we had run out of oil! Hope it was not a taste of things to come. I love a big snowstorm, but I’m worried about the wind knocking out power. Lengthy power outages in the winter are not fun. Despite being in a semi-rural situation, we have town water, so at least we can flush the toilet, but no heat, no way to cook, no lights…
It hasn’t started snowing here, but the wind is gusting heavily. Our forecast has ranged from around 6 inches to 2 feet. Right now, it’s at 11-17 inches. I’m 10 miles north of Portland.
Luckily my mother, who is 91 and lives alone in Fairfield County, just got a standby generator installed. She was without power for one to two weeks each time during the Irene/Sandy/Snowtober events. At least don’t have to worry about her.
Consolation, it just started at our house.
We’ve got our generator ready to go. We paid an electrician to set up everything so after starting the generator, we flip a switch and get lights, fridge, water pump, and outlets.
I am in a coastal town in Massachusetts where we are supposed to get the most snow and the worst of the wind and flooding. It is unbelievable here right now! I haven’t seen weather like this since the Blizzard of 78. Lucky for me , my dog has some tummy trouble so we have needed to go out in it several times. The storm has literally scared the $&i# out of her. My porch furniture is all over the place and the wind sounds like a freight train. Can’t tell how much snow there is because it’s drifting. It’s amazing that we still have power and internet. Our provider shut off power in some of the coastal neighborhoods at 6pm (or so I hear) in order to prevent the possibility of house fires (which has happened before in other storms). Those people are evacuating to shelters. My H works for a utility so the poopy dog and I are riding this out alone.
I don’t think we’ve gotten any snow overnight at all and it’s not snowing now. If I had to guess a total I’d say maybe a half inch, if that! Supposed to get some more today, but they’ve cancelled the winter snow warning and it’s only an advisory now.
H came home around 7:30 last night saying things were running smoothly and any issues he could handle from here.
Looking at local news now and seems only school districts east of the Hudson River( I am right across on the west side) are closed. Kids on my side of the Hudson are going to be very disappointed when they get up this morning.
@EPTR, stay safe!
Southern New Jersey-reporting in with 1inch of snow-don’t think we even had winds- much ado about nothing for our area
In Boston…total white-out outside and falling fast and furious…already a bunch of snow and lots more to come.
North central NJ here. REALLY happy to look out and see black plowed streets in my neighborhood.
Havent been out yet, lots of deep looking drifting white stuff.
Seems like if i can dig car out of driveway i can get to work. Some coworkers slept over on air mattresses last nite.
Im way too old for that!
SW CT along the coast. This is a big nothing – we’ve gotten maybe four or five inches. Ho hum. If this is the storm of the century, I’ll take it.
Condolences to the folks up Boston way who are having an entirely different experience.
