Are You Ready For Some Football!!!!

Patriots:

This Denver/Dallas game is a wild one!

I gotta admit I was worried that the cowpies might pull that one out against Denver. But Romo lived up to his reputation and threw an interception.

^^

Yep, he did throw an interception after having to try to untie a game in which he threw for more than 500 yards, by the way. A game that might not have been tied had the refs not decided that Peyton has the right to throw away the ball from within the pocket. Hope you realize that such penaly comes with a loss of down.

We all pick certain points and focus on them. If you can’t stop long enough to applaud one of the best performances by a QB in the past years, the joke is really on you. In a way, it is shame that this game had to end with one winner. I hope I get to see more games of that caliber, regardless if my cowpies end up on the losing end.

That was a wild game. I said at half-time that whoever had the ball last would win, and lo and behold…

Denver allegedly has a good defense, but Romo and the Cowboys’ receivers lit. them. up. Romo averaged almost 22 yards per completion, which is nuts. It’s unfortunate he threw the pick at the worst possible time in the game, it doesn’t help his rep any.

re the non-called intentional grounding - there was a receiver in the area, about five yards past where the ball hit the ground. I thought Peyton’s arm got hit as he threw it. It’s a judgment call though, and as long as there is a receiver in the area, the qb will usually get the benefit of the doubt. If I was a Boys’ fan, I would probably be ****ed though.

Romo - 140.0 rating, Manning - 129.6.

There was only one punt in the game.

Lifelong Cowboys fan not surprised at another Romo choke at a crucial time. Doesn’t he work with a sports psychologist??? Can’t someone help him? I already know that I’m beyond help.

Spoken like a sore loser. Maybe the cowpies need Tebow. :)

I wrote I want to see more games like this one. Had I been a sore loser, I might have rattled off a list of six seven horrendous no-calls. Holdings galore. Hands in the face on Ware and Hatcher. How Witten was pushed OOB five yards from the ref. Horse collar. All in addition to the obvious intentional grounding. But those are routine when a better team comes in the stadium of an underdog.

My main point was about the performance of Romo. Without him and his escapes, we might have been down by 30 points. 500 yards throwing to two rookies and Beasley to complement Wiiten and Dez against Denver. Yep, that takes quite a choker.

Ok, ok, the truth is that you are right. Romo is playing better this year than I have seen him play in the past. He went toe to toe with Manning which is an amazing accomplishment. It’s just that one play that ruined all his great play for the day. An ugly win for the Broncos is still a win.

Romo still has one of the hottest wives in football whether he wins or loses.

Interesting that Peyton had an interception which led to a touchdown. But because it came not at the end, it’s forgiven.

I’m not normally a Romo fan. But he is not the reason the Cowboys lost. Their defense was nonexistent. Romo kept them in the game. I thought before it started it would probably be 54-10. The fact that it was even close was to Romo’s credit. But of course because his mistake came at the end, he will be blamed. Patently unfair in my opinion.

And yes, his wife is beautiful. So what.

Wow, gotta say that the above is rare, VERY RARE on CC. No one ever admits they could possibly be wrong about anything here. SHOCKED, I must say. ;)

Thanks, Razor.

A small addendum regarding the usual INT by Romo, for the 5 games in 2013 his totals are
13 TD for 2 Interceptions only. More than 1500 yards.

Check the rest of QB in the league, and except for Peyton, it is hard to find better stats. I think Eli is up to 12 INT and Flacco just behind.

The guy in the blue shirt has been a feature in Jerry’s box, and for good reasons. He probably could read a superb college essays about growing up being part of the Cowboy empire. After all, aren’t kids supposed to write about despair, disillusion, and hard knocks?

Anyhow, it is pretty good montage!

The problem with Romo throwing for 500 yards and X TD’s is the same old one, that everyone will remember that (once again) he seemed to choke under pressure and throw an interception. Bill Parcell’s is quoted as saying that how good a team is is reflected in its record, in Romo’s case it is whether or not there is a W after the game in the season recap.

Obviously, it isn’t fair to blame Romo alone, his pick won the game for Denver, and had he not thrown the pick, it might have gone into OT and they lost it anyway. The problem is this has been a pattern with Romo, he has done this every time the game is on the line, so he is going to take this kind of heat.

The real question I would have is where was the defense on either side? There is no glory in a game when both sides put up these kind of points, it indicates a major breakdown in both defenses, and the DC’s should be getting some pretty strong glares from everyone concerned.

“Interesting that Peyton had an interception which led to a touchdown. But because it came not at the end, it’s forgiven.”

The answer to that is it came at a time when Denver could recover from it, whereas Romo’s came at a a point where it was a critical fail situation. Romo unfortunately has the knock that he can’t win the big ones, that he chokes, which Peyton doesn’t have. The fact that Romo had 13 tds and 2 ints shows he is playing very, very well, and yeah, he is playing better than I have ever seen him play, but unfortunately his int last night ended up costing them the game, leading to the groan of ‘same old Romo’…and if you compare Romo to the other Texas based QB, Schaub, there is no comparison, Schaub managed to out Sanchez Sanchez, no mean feat, by throwing a pick 6 in consecutive games (I personally always thought Schaub was over rated, any decent D can shut him down, he was the darling of broadcasters and analysts, but is not a great QB).

Yes, the rap will be that he threw the game away. And that it is the same old Romo! His reputation is indeed established, but it is mostly based on casual and inaccurate assessments. The media is feasting on controversy. The analysts and the old glories love to criticize and weigh the current players against some romantic view of themselves. The reality of the Steve Young, Montana is that they never had to throw against athletic and super fast DB as today. The days when a slow footed Everson Walls could lead the league in INT are long gone.

The fact that Romo gets the criticism of being his “usual” choker is important, as his current play amply denies that. In 2013, he had this interception and one against the Giant caused by a route error committed by the rookie who had another bonehead play last week. Between those two plays … flawless football to bail out a defense who has not stopped anyone except the Rams.

Further, there is the play itself. Some credit has to go to the back who made a GREAT catch. Then, one needs to know what the playcalling was. Romo had just been sacked and Denver was able to push the line backwards leaving about 10 yards to operate. The receivers did run more than a shallow route. It is not that Romo decides to adlib and throw a ball where no receivers were. Could it be that the receiver was supposed to run a shorter route and come back to the ball. We will never know the finer details, but might think that Romo who had been lazer sharp all day did throw as the call was made. The only other option was to hit Murray but the line was blocked by Denver’s rush. All the other receiver went deep. No reports of a last second audible was mentioned. And little was made of the lineman stepping on Romo leg as he throws the ball.

Last but not least, there is the small issue that the Boys were on a 2nd-16. Throw the ball away and the pressure will be greater to complete an 18 yards pass. Then, they will have to punt from their endzone and give the ball to Peyton at midfield. Since the D did not stop them all day long, what were the chances Denver would not advance 20 yards and win the game as they did.

Yes, there is game management. But the odds --as Romo and probably the OC saw-- were none other than hoping for Romo to throw yet another miracle pass or execute an Houdini escape from 5 Denver players.

Being the QB of the Cowboys is a raw deal. High expectations but a less than perfect cast of supporting players. Year after year!

He is going to get paid $120 million over the next seven years… hardly a raw deal.

One measure of “clutch-ness” would be 4th quarter comebacks. Romo is #6 among active QBs:

And 10th in game-winning drives:

Which is not too shabby. I couldn’t find stats on 4th quarter chokes. I found this for 2012:

Romo is in some good company.

Andrew Luck, btw, already has 6 4th quarter comebacks and 9 game-winning drives in 1.25 seasons:

Didn’t Peyton throw an interception at a clutch time last year in the playoffs, costing them a trip to the Super Bowl?

But I can’t really be critical of Peyton. He’s actually my favorite quarterback. I admire his talent and intelligence and find him really really funny. I LOVE his car commercial. ''How 'bout that?" :)

That Game had me glued to the tv. My H and I were going out, but there was no way I was going to leave without seeing the end, regardless of how late we might be.

On a side note about college ball, the Trojans had their best game of the season… ;)
