Notrichenough you are spot on. This is not a deal that agents or the players union will be celebrating. Basically its the first of its kind where there was no signing bonus which counts as dead money years after the player has been cut. If a 30 year old Cutler in essence signed a 3 year deal, why wouldn’t the Giants do a similar deal with 33 year old Eli Manning.

Oh my goodness, what a game between the Colts and the Chiefs! Wow.

Luck threw all those interceptions yet the Colts won! I wanted to see the Chief’s win to let Alex Smith have a little vindication but it didn’t happen.

How do the Chiefs have no time outs left at the two-minute warning, allowing the Colts to just knee it out?

Seems like another episode in Andy Reid’s clock mismanagement history.

It was a great game though… Eagles-Saints is a snooze-fest so far.

A snoozefest, indeed. Come on, Eagles.

Quite happy with the WC outcomes today. Philadelphia’s lucky streak finally came to an end. No unplayable weather or horrible ref calls to help them out this time. The Eagles did not deserve the playoffs. All is well.

The Colts’ game was great with lots of aggressive calls. Hard to believe how low those two teams were 24 months ago and last year for the Chiefs.

Luck has such bright future ahead of him. And Richardson showed what a giant bust he truly is.

By the way, there were three Texas QBs on the field today.

So Im not really paying attention.
New Orleans plays Seattle next week?
I guess we’ll get to see Steve Gleason, he was also just on this side of the mts last month to see Pearl Jam.
:)

And UT has a new coach!

So very glad the Eagles are out.

Because?

Going strictly by record and head-to-head tiebreakers, they are the 5th place team in the NFC and the 10th place team in the whole NFL.

First Patterson and now this Louisville coach? Tossing Mack Brown to the curb for …this?

Mack had lost a step in recruiting by missing out on the last two Heisman who would have “went to Texas” if asked properly, but the last moves in Austin are hardly pleasing the diehard Longhorns. This program is a plum job and deserves a superstar.

Too bad!

UCB, did you watch the Arizona game and that IceCapade game?

No. What was so special about those games?

The ESPN recap of the Arizona game did not indicate anything extraordinarily lucky for Philadelphia or bad call by the officials or something like that. The Detroit game in the snow was a blowout against a mediocre team anyway, so assuming that Philadelphia would have lost otherwise is not a good assumption.

Even if Philadelphia lost one of the two games, it would have been the 6th place team in the NFC and the 12th place team in the whole NFL by record and head-to-head tiebreakers.

Hard to know if you did not watch the game. ;)

Here is a tidbit about one of the worst jobs by a crew this year:

Arians noted that the Cards submitted about 15 plays for review.

Thats pretty high, he said. I think thats considered a problem.

Among the plays submitted was the 4th-and-5 on the Cardinals last possession, where Bradley Fletcher broke up a pass intended for Michael Floyd. There was some contact before the ball got to Floyd but nothing was called. The Tyrann Mathieu defensive holding call that negated Nick Foles interception is sure to be on the tape, as well as the holding call on Matt Shaughnessy in the games final moments that allowed the Eagles to run the clock out.

Even if you flip the Philadephia - Arizona game, the playoff teams and seedings would have been the same. Philadelphia would have won the division at 9-7 being the third seed (over 8-7-1 Green Bay), while Arizona would still have missed the playoffs at 11-5 (losing the head-to-head tiebreaker to New Orleans).

If the playoffs were simply decided by the 6 best teams in the conference or 12 best teams in the whole NFL, Philadelpha in this theoretical case would have been the 6th best team in the NFC and 12th best team in the whole NFL – i.e. in the playoffs.

So I guess they are not going to waive the 5 year Hall of Fame wait for eligibility for Chip Kelly just yet. We will see how Saints do outdoors next week against a defense that can actually stop the run. Eagles did a good job disrupting Jimmy Graham all day.

Xiggi I agree Texas is a plum job but I heard the first 3 favorites turned them down. Who did you want instead of Strong. He is a good coach and recruits Florida very well.

If he recruits Texas as well as he did Florida Texas will be very strong every year. If he continues to recruit Florida and does well in Texas getting the top kids from both States Longhorn fans will have a lot of fun watching football.

I love the Eagles and am sorry they lost. So close…

I agree with tom. I want Strong’s recruiting skills. I watched the All-American Game yesterday, and I want some of that Texas talent going to UT and not to other programs. I pray Heard doesn’t bolt. I watched interviews with the UT commits after the game, and most were openly enthusiastic about the hire, including Heard. I think having an African-American head coach will help keep some of kids in Texas. I love the idea of opening a Florida pipeline to UT.
