Are you ready for some football?

I’m getting ready for media day . . . I don’t want puffy eyes under the lights

see post #2166 RE bathroom theory

Lergnom,

  1. I'm not sure why you're assuming the balls were underinflated by "more like 1 psi."

http://espn.go.com/boston/nfl/story/_/id/12202450/nfl-says-new-england-patriots-had-inflated-footballs-afc-championship-game

  1. I agree that it's highly unlikely a locker room attendant took it upon himself to deflate the footballs, and it doesn't sound like he had the chance even if he wanted to. Which leaves the question ...
  2. Why were all (but one) of the Patriots' footballs deflated, and zero of the Colts' balls were? You keep brushing that admittedly inconvenient fact aside. But somewhere along the line, something happened to 11 of the Patriots' footballs which did not happen to their 12th football, and which did not happen to any of the Colts' footballs. If the deflation had to do with the way the Patriots prepare the footballs, why didn't it happen to all 12 of them? And if it had to do with environmental factors, like weather, why didn't it happen to the Colts' footballs?

There has to be an answer to this question. If it’s not preparation, and it’s not environmental, then what on earth could it be?

The most likely answer is a small misfire in the execution of the game plan. The only part of their plan, on the part of New England, that went wrong all day.

All ready for media day!

Saintfan, Gisele will be jealous.

That cat better not be a dude.

Loving it, Saintfan, lol.

The Three Stooges investigation.

Larry, Moe, and Curly at the NFL offices hire a top law firm and a crack forensic team. After 8 days, they have “zero’d in” on the prime suspect for the nefarious deed. The ball boy, shown ducking into the mens room on the way to a 3.5 hour game on the hallway surveillance video the Pats gave them last Monday. And, now they announce that it’s going to take “several more weeks” for this assembled brain power to figure out what he might have been doing for 90 seconds.

Nyuk, Nyuk, Nyuk. It’s amazing they aren’t poking themselves in the eye… These idiots couldn’t manage to get the video of Ray Rice decking his girlfriend in the elevator, but now they’ve caught this poor schlub…

Because other “sources” are now saying it was more like 1 PSI, as reported here: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2015/01/25/nfl-bears-plenty-of-blame-for-deflategate/

That source says only the ball the Colts had was 2 PSI under. Hmmm.

We don’t know what the starting and ending pressure of the Colts’ footballs were. If they started at 13.5 and went down 1 PSI due to the weather, they’d still be in the range.

My guess is the one ball that was not deflated could have been the only one not used during the first half.

By now the ball boy has probably destroyed any incriminating evidence on his cell phone and swallowed the inflation needle. He should get a book agent as I smell a huge best seller in the making…“Deflate This”.

To paraphrase the hilarious and quite revealing words of Mrs. Giselle Buchen Brady immediately following her husband’s defeat at the hands of the NY Giants in the Super Bowl; ‘my husband cannot deflate the f@#!&ing ball and throw the f@#!&ing ball at the same time!’

LOL - Yep, she sure threw Welker under the bus on that one

@TonyK; double LOL!

@jshain #2185 that’s the only reason that I can see.‌

Robert Kraft came out and said the NFL will have to apologize. For him to do this was, if you’ve ever heard the guy, if you know how he works, is startling. And he said expressly that his guys have said they didn’t break any rules. Here’s what he said:

I want to make it clear, that I believe unconditionally that the New England Patriots have done nothing inappropriate in this process to be in violation of NFL rules. Tom, Bill, and I have been together for 15 years. They are my guys, they are part of my family. Bill, Tom, and I have had many difficult discussions over the years, and I have never known them to lie to me. That is why I am confident in saying what I just said.

“It bothers me greatly that their reputations and integrity — and by association, that of our team — has been called into question this past week.”

“I am confident that this investigation will uncover whatever the facts were that took place last Sunday, and the science of how game balls react to changes in the environment. This would be in direct contrast to the public discourse which has been driven by media leaks, as opposed to actual data and facts.

“Because of this, many jumped to conclusions and made strong accusations against our coach, quarterback, and staff. If the investigation is not able to definitively determine that our organization tampered with the air pressure in the footballs, I would expect and hope that the league would apologize to our entire team, and in particular, Coach Belichick and Tom Brady for what they have had to endure this past week. I am disappointed in the way this entire matter has been handled and reported upon.”

BTW, since people are now flogging this bathroom story and “could they do it in 90 seconds?” crap, I want to ask this question: why would someone do this in such a great hurry? In other words, the ballboy has 10 minutes and can go into the bathroom and take his time to get it right. He could even have his own pressure gauge. But the hysterics, haters and people trying to get more clicks for their site - e.g., Pro Football Talk - switch it around to “could it possibly be done?” This isn’t Oswald shooting JFK when we know the time difference between the 1st and last shots, but a roughly 10 minute window. There is a similarity however: people like to argue Oswald couldn’t shoot 3 shots on a bolt action rifle in the short time the shots were fired and they even show you - open bolt, close bolt, fire, open bolt, close bolt, fire, open bolt, close bolt fire. I’ve even had this demonstrated to me in person and my comment was: you count from the 1st shot, not from when he loaded and cocked the rifle. It isn’t hard to fire 2 shots in the time Oswald did because you start counting when he needs to work the bolt.

Similar but reverse kind of twisting of logic being flogged here: the possibility that a guy could maybe do this in about 90 seconds doesn’t include going in and locking the door and putting stuff down on the ground and fishing what he need out and picking it all up and hiding his needle and then coming out. And it assumes he knows which balls he’s touched and which he hasn’t in each open bag, because heaven knowns he wouldn’t want to miss a ball or double deflate it and cause a problem for the team, so he somehow has to organize the action not just unzip and start stabbing at gaskets, which he also has to find on each ball. Anyone here handle a bag full of footballs? I’ve handled bags of soccer balls and there’s no way I could tell one identical ball from another if I’m reaching around in a bag. Push one aside and “Is that one I’ve done or not?” All this has to be done casually so he doesn’t draw attention. So unless the guy was moving at light speed, assuming 90 seconds is the rough time, we’re talking less time … but the clickbait floggers and attention seeking idiots want to draw your attention away from that to say “circumstantial evidence”. Of what? I saw PFT mentioned the Hernandez case, meaning they’re really reaching for those extra clicks, when of course that case has a dead body. Anything is circumstantial evidence but without evidence the Patriots have done this regularly, without anything more, what is it evidence of? I’d say it’s wanting to flog your site and get attention on TV and radio.

Sounds like Mythbusters.

That’s the trouble with cheating. SpyGate may have been the one and only time this team has ever, ever cheated. But people tend to believe that cheating speaks to character, which is what’s making it so hard for a lot of people to give them the benefit of the doubt this time, even if they’re telling the truth.

I’m assuming that they will interview this guy and do more research and go from there to see if it is even a plausible theory or not - one would hope anyway. I have no idea either way but I do have a quibble with the logic of Steven A Smith this am on First Take who was positing that it was a lot of effort and trouble for Belichick and/or Brady to go through for the NFC championship when they had the talent to win the game running away. If there is anything to this at all one would have to assume that it is par for the course - that whatever procedure they allegedly did is how they did it every game and not just for this game. If indeed there was any tampering the most logical explanation would be that whoever did the alleged tampering had at least a season’s worth of practice under his belt and the capability to be pretty darn efficient. I, too, have trouble believing that Brady, Belichick or anyone else invented this from whole cloth just for this game (if there was anything to it at all).

Me too. They did win going away, but they didn’t know that before the game. The previous week, they had a difficult time putting the Ravens away, and there was reason to believe that beating the Colts would be even harder. The margin of victory is irrelevant.

That’s a very fetching ensemble you’ve chosen for media day, saintfan.
