Are you ready for some football?

Why is texting to the sidelines prohibited when the staff communicates all the time between the booths and the sidelines via headphones?

I guess I’m tired and not comprehending well.

^^ Because the NFL is afraid of change and is populated by control freaks and is led by a clueless, out of touch idiot.

well i don’t think anyone is claiming that baldwin’s decision to do that was classy. isolated incident, guy was an idiot to do that and it cost us. legion of boom not overrated, we’ll be back

didn’t read the whole thing, have we discussed bevell at all? still can’t believe he threw lockette under the bus when literally everyone else on the team fell on the sword…

I watched a panel discussion yesterday among some coaches and sports writers. They were unanimous that the correct call would have been for Wilson to roll out and throw a corner pas to someone other than Lockett, for two reasons. They said first, Lockette was not the right person, and two, he was in too close a crowd of players. Oh well. For most of us, Monday morning quarterbacking is the closest we’ll ever get to playing, so I plan to take advantage.

I would imagine it’s because the texts could be coming from someone other than the coaches in the booth.

For challenges, for example, it’s not clear if what they see in the coaches’ booth is what is seen on tv. So maybe the owner sees something different sends down a text saying challenge the play.

Or maybe an injury report from a sideline reporter.

Of maybe it’s a message from his bookie.

One great thing about any game is “what if”. The Patriots didn’t throw at Sherman so his arm meant very little. Chancellor had an MCL, not an ACL and that may require a clean-up operation but a lot of players continue to play with MCL’s. I remember Logan Mankins admitted he played nearly an entire season with a torn MCL.

What the Patriots did on offense was mostly scheme and match-ups. Seattle plays mostly zone and their guys are mostly bigger. There are advantages to big but there are also disadvantages and the Patriots have offensive plays designed to work against zones and against bigger players.

But everyone loves “what if”. A big one in NE is that Gronk was hurt for the 2012 Super Bowl that the Patriots lost by a play. A healthy Gronk? Even a ¾ healthy Gronk?

But the one that really hurt was 2006: after winning the Super Bowl MVP, Deion Branch held out and eventually the Patriots traded him to Seattle for a 1st round pick. Seattle over-rated Branch and gave him a big contract; Branch was both injury-prone and much more a product of Tom Brady and the NE system than people realized. While David Givens also left - incredibly over-rated by Tennessee, which gave him a huge contract - the team really missed Branch. They were left with only Troy Brown, who was starting to show age. They brought in the immortal Reche Caldwell and during the season signed Jabbar Gaffney - who was on the street. Gaffney became a solid receiver over time but what hurts is the team still had a great defense but only 1 quality receiver and still went up 20-3 over the Colts in Indy but couldn’t hold on because a) they need one guy and b) the defense was felled by the flu to the point they put a reserve linebacker in as deep safety. Lost on one play. Indy beat a Chicago team the Patriots had already beaten when the Bears were at their strongest. That one bothers people here to this day because that would have been the 3 in row.

2/5/15.

Coincidence?

^ Wouldn’t have been three in a row, the Pats lost to the Broncos in the divisional round in 2005.

Reche F-ing Caldwell, as he is known at my house, dropped an easy catch for a TD that may well have cost the Pats a shot at the Super Bowl. In hindsight they should have found a way to keep Branch, or found someone besides a stiff like Caldwell. What if, indeed.

It was also 21-3 over the Colts at halftime … so I remember things wrong fairly often. That Caldwell play is one of those great boners: they forgot to cover him so he’s all alone and …

Riiiiight, those classy Seahawk players who, besides the incidents already described by notrichenough, who started a fight by taking a swing on one of the final plays of the game. Definition of a sore loser.

Pot, meet the kettle.

Fan reactions don’t matter. They don’t change the final score. They embody lots of hard to control emotions.

Seattle has a lot of, to be kind, immature players. NE surely has immature players as well - youngest roster in the league - but it doesn’t tolerate that coming out in public. Even a notorious attention grabber like Chad Johnson - when he was officially Ochocinco - had to stop when he was in NE. Some people believe NE is too serious and I agree that sometimes they are, in part because it creates an illusion these guys aren’t nutty football players who drink, carouse, etc. While NE doesn’t have an Antonio Cromartie with at least 12 kids with 8 women and unable to name them without checking, they have had Ben Coates who had children with 5 women and Dave Megget, etc. That this stuff doesn’t come out doesn’t mean the NE players are all great guys. I don’t think anyone in NE other than little kids believes that stuff: the “Patriot Way” is a way of approaching the game, not a complete lifestyle management system.

That said, the public displays of bad sportsmanship by Seattle players is notable, from #1 Cornerback Richard Sherman’s completely over-the-top ranting to #1 wide receiver going down in history as the guy who acted out taking a crap on the football. They need to grow up, which doesn’t mean they really need to grow up but they need to learn how to act in public. That’s up to Pete Carroll and, bluntly, that is not his strength. It’s almost the opposite of his strength; he’s long been known as both a very good coach and motivator and as an enabler of bad behavior. This was famously true in NE when he was found to be saying there were punishments while telling the players involved there weren’t and covering for that. It’s his weakness the way dealing with media is Belichick’s weakness. As in, these people are packages with good sides and bad and you have to take the package as is.

I think it’s pretty pathetic to try to justify bad behavior during a victory parade. There is an obvious difference between what antics go on by both teams players on the field in the middle of a testosterone loaded game, and well after the fact.

If my teams players were doing that kind of classless crap after winning the Super Bowl, I would just be embarrassed. I wouldn’t excuse it, I wouldn’t say, But, look what the other team did," I would wish they could show some class. I certainly don’t recall the Seahawks mocking the Broncos during the victory parade. If they had, I would have been disgusted.

Oh, my!!! A left sharkgate?

Considering how Perry dances, she should claim the rights to “born with two left feet”

What a clown!

"SPOKANE, Wash. – The family of a Seahawks fan who died after the Super Bowl says he would have enjoyed the dig at the team they put in the last line of his obituary:

“We blame the Seahawks lousy play call for Mike’s untimely death.”

The obituary for Michael Vedvik appeared Thursday in The Spokesman-Review.

His wife, Stephanie, says he would have found the line hilarious.

The 53-year-old Kent man actually didn’t see the game. He recorded it, intending to watch later, and went to sleep not feeling well, thinking it was indigestion or stress. He died in bed after a heart attack.

His brother-in-law added the line about Seattle’s unsuccessful final play to the obituary and Stephanie Vedvik approved."

Gallows humor, but this kind of cracks me up.

I attended the parade that was held in 2014 after the Seahawks overwhelmingly dominated the Broncos.
It was an opportunity for the region to come together in a positive way and I didn’t expect any embarrassing behavior by the team, and wasn’t disappointed. It was not important that the difference in final scores for the opposing teams was 35 pts, what was important was celebrating with the 12’s.

Contrast this to the Pats Super Bowl victory parade, which they barely squeaked out with 4 more points than the opposing team, but some how instead of celebrating their luck, they felt the need to print offensive tee shirts and signs.

,

Time to put that “holier than thou” puppy to bed! I still wonder how many of the commenters who have painted the Seattle fans as angels have ever seen much of the Clink! There is a reason why teams and fans do not like to have to travel to play the Seahawks and Sounders FC. There are obviously a great number of great fans who enjoy being loud and petulant, but there are quite a few who are transgressing the limits of civility. Perhaps, a bit mimicking the fabric of the team and its coaches.

Just for you xig.

This thread is just becoming homer vs homer. Boresville if you’re not a fan of either team and tired of sniping.

Thank you, EK4. Interesting read that also puzzles me how it relates to anything I wrote here. But c’est la vie!
