So happy that football is back, however this pretty accurately sums up my feelings watching the preseason:
Thanks for the trigger warning
I wouldn’t want to kill the vibe on this fine Blue Friday morning.
Well, we here in Eagles territory are…well, what are we? Chip Kelly has blown up the team and is making his version of some sort of futuristic robotic amalgamation of part human part android beings in football uniforms.
His hurry up offense will do no good if the officials do not get the ball down quick enough.
Stay tuned…
Enjoyed the Packers-Patriots game even though from the announcers’ commentary you might have thought there was only one team on the field (or in the whole wide world).
Two cool things to note:
Big deal here in Tampa is if Jameis Winston will be a bust or savior for Bucs…he’s gotta keep it straight and narrow both on and off the field.
This year’s QB stuff - Winston, Mariota, et al - is definitely interesting.
I’m also interested in the absurd saga of the J-E-T-S and the Rex Ryan Bills with all his bleeping bravado (and no QB).
I’ve said many times the odds of getting to the Super Bowl more than once in a row are low and both this past year’s teams got in on fluke plays, but I’m really interested in how Green Bay and Baltimore respond. Green Bay should have been there but they weren’t. Baltimore must know they could have been there (because Indy isn’t as good as people want to believe). Do those teams step up or fall back? Can they maintain the focus? Are they lucky enough?
I’m interested in seeing what happens with Peyton this year. He seems to wear out faster each season, but he starts great. And the Giants … what the heck are they? And does SF continue to decline with Harbaugh gone?
Lots of storylines.
footballfootballfootballfootballfootball!!! GO HAWKSGOHAKWGOHAWKS!!! The dog is in her jersey. I’m drinking my lucky beer and it’s raining cats and dogs!!! =D>
So I’m thinking of renaming my fantasy team to DeflatorMaus.
what I think is amazing is that no one is defending Geno Smith, while everyone condemned what the linebacker did, almost everyone, players from inside the team, commentators, retired players, all are saying that it shows what kind of leader (or not) Smith is, and now that it has come out that Smith got in the guys face, and basically taunted him, it shows what a moron he is and also that he is a head case. Chris Carter was on the radio this morning, and he said he never saw a QB ever do something like that, and the fact that the other players, who knew of the bad blood, did nothing says volumes. He pointed out that if Peyton manning or Tom Brady got into that position (he said they wouldn’t, because they are both leaders) that you would see a lot of big defensive and offensive players getting in the middle of it and ending it.
Course, people had a field day with this, some of the better comments on twitter were “Geno threw the first punch but it missed by 3 feet” “He threw a punch but it got intercepted” “Best qb upgrade for 600 bucks” “no one blocked for him” “Brady may miss 4 games over underinflated footballs, Geno smith may miss 4 games over 600 bucks, what a season”.
I personally thought getting Geno Smith was a bad move, my take on him in college he reminded me of Mike Vick, though Geno has little of the talent Vick had but apparently has a lot of the same bad attitude that ruined Vick’s career.QB’s have to be leaders, and I can’t see a team that didn’t seem to care enough about him to try and defuse the situation actually following the guy.
I heard the same segment. Of course I also heard that they were taking a look at Matt Flynn which may not be the kind of upgrade they’re looking for. Where’s Tim Tebow when you need him
Tebow will be available before long. He is #4 on the Eagles depth chart, and I would bet after this week he will be cut.
It would be hilarious to see him back on the Jets.
Flynn is injured, sick is why the Pats cut him.
I hope to watch Bucs play Vikings in exhibition game on TV tonight. Want to see Jameis in action and too see if Bucs have improved some overall. Too, a school days friend of mine is on Vikings squad now playing as backup running back/kick returner…DuJuan ‘Fox’ Harris…he was with Green Bay last few seasons. These preseason games are big for non starters like DuJuan who will hopefully get to show some of his stuff on field tonight…hope he gets to stay with Vikes all season. DuJuan is only 5’ 7’’…but he is fast and strong…and is all good attitude…if he loaned you $600 he would round it up to a $1000 and wouldn’t even ask for it back ever. Hope DuJuan busts one for a TD tonight!
Re: Geno Smith. I don’t know about “leadership qualities” given that Steve McNair was a terrific leader and look at his life and what happened. Some of these guys are above it all and some aren’t and some are bleeps and some aren’t. That this idiot LB held this grudge for 2 years is absurd. But then it is the Jets.
Yep - this first game was all about the players on the margins - who makes it past the first cut and who is looking for a new team. It does look like our third running back question might have been answered which is good. The high draft pick who hasn’t amounted to anything so far fumbled the ball and the rookie upstart from nowhere scored a TD. I am also pleased to say that we officially have a kick/punt returner! That’s the best news of the day. We also have a back-up who can be the 3rd sting QB as well.
In pre season you don’t really see anything of the real team until the third game, most teams will have their #1 offense and defense in for at least a half, the first 2 games are about checking out the depth, the players they drafted deep, unsigned free agents, lower quality free agents and so forth, so the starters play very little. Basically, the games turn into what my S calls ‘The amorphous blob’ pretty fast.
I was at the Jets training camp today with my S, was brutally hot, I feel for the players. Hard to tell anything from the drills, but Ryan Fitzpatrick’s arm looks pretty weak, Petty has a decent arm, but it was pretty evident he will need a lot of work to be good enough to play QB, as watered down as practice is these days, you could see issues with decision making and with situational awareness. Marshall looked pretty good, I have seen him burn both Revis and Cromrtie in practice, still has some moves. My favorite new player is Williams, the DE, with the way his hair is he looks like a lion, I hope he plays like one!
We had only a few players from the #1 units. Many are out with injuries and they really needed to see what they have at the 3rd and 4th levels. Marshawn almost never plays pre-season and we had just a bit of Robert Turbin, the solid #2. They have 3 guys battling for the 3rd position so they will get most of the early reps to winnow it down.
The reason Fitzpatrick’s arm looks weak is that it is. He can do well in a short passing game if he can make quick decisions and isn’t misled by the defense’s coverage. At his very best, he would remind me of a lesser Chad Pennington in type, though Chad was very good (when not hurt too much).
I was just at the Verizon store down the street and 2 members of my team were there!!! I got to breath the very same air! I won’t say who they were to protect their privacy, but they were low key and chill. ^:)^
