Good and bad game from both teams.
It wasn’t pretty! Russell out played Cam. What play off football is supposed to be.
No question that Caroll is a very, very good coach; but he has a blind spot when it comes to situational football, i.e. clock management. This is the second consecutive year where while trailing late he made bad decisions regarding the clock. Last year in the Superbowl Belichek outcoached Carroll by declining to call a time out while the Seahawks were trying to score, leaving only time for a single victorious play be Seattle, which of course the Patriots prevented. Today Carroll should have heeded Troy Aikman’s advice and kicked that last field goal earlier. If the field goal had come BEFORE the 2-minute warning there was a chance for the hawks defense to stop Carolina again have one more possession. 1 timeout and the 2-minute warning might have left Seattle enough time for a drive…if the Defense held. But Carroll decided not to chance it with the defense one last time. Ugh!
I rooted for the Panthers in the first half. But I changed my mind in the second half. How could you score 31 points in the first half (or the first quarter - I don’t remember) but score nothing in the second half?
How could you score zero points in the first half, and then only 24 points in the second half?
^ Exactly that’s the question. That’s why I said both teams were good and bad.
Yep - they needed two scores so could have kicked early. It bothers me that they seem to need to be under the gun to flip that switch and start playing like they mean it. Why not start a little sooner?
It will be interesting to see what happens with Lynch and Okung. We have no viable replacement at Left Tackle but Okung is up for contract and is injured so much of the season. I wish they would just bite the bullet and draft a legitimate, real, honest to God LT in the first round this time. No more dinking around.
I have to say I shook my head on that first play from scrimmage when Sherman chased the runner down. He’s the player everyone wishes they had…
I don’t know how you screw it up so bad in the first few minutes, and then manage to do so well the last half. And how you score like crazy the first half, and don’t score at all the second. This was one weird game.
And the stress eating didn’t help at all. Pizza, cookies, chocolate, and now I feel sick to my stomach!
@saintfan, Okung was the 6th player taken in the first round in 2010. How much more legitimate can you get?
Quality LTs cost $9-10 million a year. Can they afford to resign him? Wilson’s cap hit increases by $11.5 mil next year.
I think Lynch is gone. Between his age, personality works, high salary cap, and presence of a decent backup who is 10% of the cost, there’s little reason to keep him.
With Carolina, I think it is because Carolina did something Belichick would never do, they let up and coasted, figuring they had the game in hand. They were playing deep zones, and the offense went pretty conservative. People get mad at belichick for running up scores, but he is right in that the game is not over until it is done. I am glad Carolina won, I think they deserve to be in the championship game, I hope they just don’t try playing conservative against the redbirds.
Go Steelers!
How was that not DPI on Talib in the end zone? He had his arms wrapped around the receiver!
Here We Go, Steelers! I have my terrible towel out!
Can’t stand the Steelers so pulling for Denver. Doesn’t matter though, as NE will crush either of them.
Not really watching (H is, so it’s on), but is anyone else’s audio going in and out during this game?
I don’t like Broncos because Manning keeps singing the awful song for Nationwide Insurance commercial.
