Are you ready for some football?

Sorry, but when you start calling people “silly”, and poo-pooing the passion people have about football, it’s condescending. JMO.

IMPORTANT, BREAKING NEWS:

Atlanta, as the “home” team, has chosen to wear their red jerseys, which means the Patriots will wear their white jerseys.

This is important because the team wearing white jerseys has won 11 of the last 12 Super Bowls.

Also, Roethlisberger is apparently contemplating retirement. Pittsburgh is dead if he steps away. Landry Jones is not taking them to the promised land… 6-10 at best next year if Big Ben retires, IMO.

Does anyone know how signing bonuses are handled if a player retires mid-contract? Roethlisberger has $18.6 mil in bonus money allocated against the cap over the next 3 years… would he have to pay that back?

We leave on a cruise on Sunday, February 5. We will get to watch the Super Bowl on a big outdoor screen on the ship. We will be wearing our Patriots gear. Looking forward to the hate.

@notrichenough, in the report that I heard, he would to give some of the signing bonus back.

So while you may be @notrichenough, apparently Ben is.

@Dave_N, according to spotrac (which is a great website if you are into these kinds of things), Roethlisberger has pocketed over $158 million so far in his career.

So yeah, he can afford to give some back, unless he’s the Antoine Walker of the NFL.

@MaineLonghorn, I watched the Houston v. Pats game on the big outdoor screen on a cruise two weeks ago…what a way to watch!! So much fun, lots of people, a bar within 20’ and snacks from the buffet  And, of course, we won. GO PATRIOTS !!

Sorry @notrichenough - You seem to have either misread or misunderstand, or both. No one is poo-pooing passion. Just voicing an opinion (for the umpteenth time ) that extremes like “loving” or “hating” an organization is illogical. JMO. Somehow “hating” a team is ok to you, but calling that extreme reaction “silly” seems to hurt your tender feelings.

I am a fan of one of the teams playing. I will watch and cheer for the team. I night even wear a tshirt (yes, I own a team shirt). But I don’t “love” or “hate” any team. If you need to feel you “hate” a team, well go right ahead.

Maybe you are just sensitive because you know the Falcons will win :stuck_out_tongue:

I have neither “tender feelings” nor am I “sensitive”, but keep throwing shade my way, it’s entertaining.

The Falcons may win, they have a pretty scary offense. They will need to score 30+ points to win though, because their defense is suspect. They gave up a lot of points to some pretty lousy teams. And so many rookies and 2nd year players on defense, who knows how they will react to the pressure.

I hope the Patriots win, and I hope Roger Goodell is there to see it. And if he’s smart, he won’t spend much time in his second home in Maine this summer!

More misreading. @notrichenough. My responses were to 1or2Musicians, not to you. Wasn’t speaking to you until you quoted me in #4618 and apparently felt “disparaged”.

@mainelonghorn:
Actually, what I would love to see, not necessarily because I am a NE or Brady fan (I respect them, though), is Goodell having to hand over the Lombardi trophy and the MVP to Brady, that would be the ultimate FU, and Goodell deserves it and then some, he is the world’s most well off (slimy) used car dealer and is just as odious.

I’m not a football fan but my S is. He loves the Broncos but also loves analyzing all the players and stats for his fantasy teams.
With the Broncos out he is liking the Falcons due to a local connection. One of the players went to his high school. Since this is a college site- random fact that center Alex Mack finished his undergrad degree in just 3 yrs at Cal. In addition to being a great football player he also was into academic excellence.

LOL- local news is breaking in with live updates of the Falcons heading to, and subsequently boarding a plane to Houston. Best news they’ve shown in days!

I hope I am not posting something already posted, (if so, my apologies), but I saw a funny pie chart depicting the makeup of people rooting for Atlanta.

That pie chart was all over my facebook feed, @Nrdsb4 =D>

Love the pie chart and 100% agree. Go Falcons!

The onion had a great article, about Goodell starting a contest to allow a fan to give out the Lombardi trophy and the MVP award this year lol.

I spent a lot of time listening to sports radio Thursday and Friday (driving to/from Boston for my son’s graduation recital), and a lot of the hosts and sportswriters pretty much mirrored what I felt, that NE has the edge because of their defense. Atlanta’s offense is potent, and I doubt very much NE is going to hold them to their season typical of like 16 points, but should be able to slow Atlanta scoring enough to allow NE to score more points. Atlanta’s defense is okay, but they have a lot of young players and Brady has the skills to pick them apart, covering what my son calls NE’s weasels ( the little guys like Edelman and Amandola) is tough, and then we have the rest of Evil One’s parts bin…

A lot of it will come down to mistakes, too, to win will require a team to play nearly perfectly, if NE makes mistakes that lead to turnovers, Atlanta’s O is likely going to score, and if NE gets in Ryan’s head or they cause the RB’s to fumble, NE will turn those into points. This is a much better NE team than won the superbowl against Seattle, it is probably as well balanced a team as they have had in a while, and that along with the Evil Genius and his two sidekicks (Patricia and McDaniel), I think will just be too much for Atlanta to beat. Plus the half hour plus halftime show benefits NE, too, Belichick can sacrifice the last player to fumble the ball to the football gods and Brady can whip up some god aweful combination of vegetables, sawgrass, quinoa and essence of spirolina and drink it and let it pass through his system in that half hour lol.

I won’t be unhappy if Atlanta wins, I think they are a good team that if they beef up the defense and/or the young guys get some experience, are going to be one of the elite teams for several years to come. I hope it is a good game, most of the playoffs have been laughable, to say the least.

RISE UP!!

@jym626 Maybe you’re on your way to becoming a rabid fan after all! Go Falcons!

Oh I support the team. Will be at a super bowl party Sunday. I just don’t “love” or “hate” any team. Thats my pet peeve. Saw a movie last week about a 91 yr old Holocaust survivor. She said that she couldn’t forgive, as that was up to a higher power, but she also could’t hate. Its that kind of thinking that I relate to.

That said-- RISE UP!!

There is a cute video on the “News 95-5 and AM 750 WSB” website called “How to deflate your pats fan coworker.” Cant link it as it seems to be a facebook link. But its entertaining for those who have a few minutes to watch.
